I was at the hospital with Dad earlier - sat on the bench outside in the glorious sunshine, waiting for a taxi to take us home. He started rolling a fag in what is certainly a no smoking area. I remembered how many years I spent glowering at near-to-hospital-door smokers as I entered and exited my job, sometimes with a snidey EXCUSE ME as I waved my arms through swirls of smoke. And then I thought of how if anyone- ANYONE came over to tell my Dad not to have this cigarette, I was going to lose my mind. Nobody did, thankfully - I didn't want to start the day with an assault charge.

The staff here at the hospital are so absolutely lovely - every single one of them. Nothing is too much trouble, for any of them. Bless them all.

For a variety of reasons, in te past three years I've had more encounters with various arms of the medical world. What I have observed and how I have been treated by all, and I mean all, the people involved has astounded me. From the specialist surgeons to the receptionists, all have been worthy of my eternal gratitude and admiration. I have the utmost respect for their devotion and understanding.

Back to USA Les, doing the upper right quadrant to death ! Started out as a trip to watch my football (i.e soccer) team in pre season tournament with tickets to two games, but ended up in a sort of "may as well while i'm there" whistle stop tour, so after brief stopover in NYC it's on to Chicago, Kansas City. Milwaukee,Philadelphia (Brighton vs Chelsea), Cleveland, Washington DC, Annapolis and Newark (Brighton vs Newcastle).

Apart from Chicago I've only been to Philadelphia (last September0 and DC (50 years ago).

First class was kind of a one off why the hell not kind of deal.

Thanks (and to Min) for your good wishes.

I’m fairly burnt out on podcasts but today listened to Julia Louis Dreyfus and her podcast ‘Wiser Than Me’ - absolutely top notch. The Jane Fonda one is a peach. Go and listen now!

Breakfast in bed
(Weetabix and cider)
Then next door neighbour
Let me ride her
Nice to see you
To see you nice
Mine's a curry
With plenty of rice

My dad hasn't seen his sister for about twenty years, despite the fact that she regularly has little holidays not all that far from where my parents live. This has been the subject of some irritation on the part of my Dad who has expressed his belief that it is extraordinary that she has been within a fifty mile radius but chosen to send postcards, but not visit. Now that he is ill she is coming to spend a few days in their village. Tomorrow. She's 81 and she is making the journey on her own with a little suitcase on a train. And I'd like to bet you all ten million zillion pounds that he's been moaning about this all weekend - why the bloody hell is she coming, can't I just be left in peace etc.

:D

Yesterday a freak tornado (or a downburst, according to meteorologists) wreaked havoc on La Chaux-de-Fonds, a town about 20 miles from mine.
There are reports and footage of pitch darkness at 11 am, winds of up to 134 mph with horizontal rain.
A tower crane crashed on a couple of cars, power masts fell to the ground, roofs flew through the air, hundreds of buildings were damaged, the place looks like a country at war.

And there I was thinking just the other day that Switzerland was a comparatively safe haven, climate-wise.

If you could send some of that rain over, and I’ll send some sun in return. Thanks!
