Mine's Saturn. It doesn't look real.
* I can't actually work out, from what I've read online, whether Pluto is in or out of the club. There appears to be some disagreement and I know that there was talk of it being downgraded. I feel sorry for Pluto so it's on the list.

Venus, because the Mekon lives there.

Neptune - a planet of cold, desolate but brilliant blueish hue. Also contains a (small) ring system and storm systems the equivalent of those on Jupiter. The planet with the strongest winds in the known solar system, and 13 moons - one of which (Triton) is the only moon known to orbit in a contrary direction to is planet and also volcanically active. It's also the coldest place in the solar syatem too.
Yes, others will go for Mars or Saturn (and understandably so) but I like the (deceivingly) serene tranquility of Neptune.

I've always been fascinated with space, space exploration and our solar system. Mars, in particular, has always intrigued me.

Saturn. I've seen it through a telescope at an astronomy evening my daughter's school was putting on and was rather thrilled.

Jupiter. It consists of gas.

Jupiter, cos it often appears in the night sky, and its moons have very pretty names AND you can sometimes see them if you use an especially good pair of 'noculars.
I'm a bit of a night sky fan, on the quiet, although I'm much better at finding my way round the UK sky in autumn and winter...

Mars, because of Edgar Rice Burroughs, Ray Bradbury, and the Martian Manhunter.

I don't think i really care. I'll vote for Saturn in homage to my favourite song.
It's out of the Planet Club for now.Molony wrote:* I can't actually work out, from what I've read online, whether Pluto is in or out of the club. There appears to be some disagreement and I know that there was talk of it being downgraded. I feel sorry for Pluto so it's on the list.

You're probably right Jude but it is hard to let go. Whilst I was growing up, Pluto had the added cool of having been discovered in the 20th century. Seems its reputation was built on shifting sands.

Yeah, the Pluto case is a sad one. Not only for Pluto itself, or the descendants of its discoverer, farmer's son Clyde Tombaugh. Also for the astrological communities of the world. All their predictions of the past century or so were dead wrong, since based on a false premise. I pity them, I do.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Mercury, for its interesting relativity affected orbit.
The precession of Mercury's perihelion couldn't be explained by Newtonian mechanics. It was only accounted for once relativistic effects were taken into account.
