Are you still wearing jeans?

Postby Jimbo » 30 May 2011, 10:19

When not at work I wear jeans. I have been wearing them almost every day since I was a little kid. Perfect for playing cowboys, we called them dungarees back then. But then the hippie and jeans thing began and at first bell bottoms were in but then faded Levis' button fly 501were the pants to wear. There was a time in the punk/new wave 80 when some people actively rejected jeans but then they gave up that fight. So hear I am nearing 60 and I am still wearing jeans.

Every day, unless it's too warm and i opt for shorts or i'm not leaving the house. Our office has a relaxed dress code, so my wardrobe is basically jeans and t-shirts.

I had a rebellious period where I wouldn't wear jeans, but since then I've been wearing jeans everyday. No fancy label jeans, just bargain jeans.

Yes. But in the summer, nothing beats a dress for comfort.

Do you see the irony in this? Jeans are the pants of the rebellion?

*Makes a mental note to try this*
*Not in a Scottish summer mind*

For the moment, it's jeans everyday. As I work in a sleazy shop, jeans to work are just fine.
All my jeans come from charity shops - the most recent being a pair of Wranglers for 4 quid, and an, as new, Gap, denim jacket for 5 quid.

Haven't done it for a long while but come summer I'd cut off the legs of a pair that had worn out. They'd be my bathing suit too.

Hey, jeans wearers, do any of you buy the not just pre-faded - they're okay because they're softer - but pre-fucked jeans with the blown out knees?

I try to avoid the pre-faded and pre-torn jeans as much as possible. Avoiding the pre-faded ones is approaching impossible these days, so i go for ones with a more natural looking fade to them.

Knickers in the US are knee pants my father wore back in the 30s.

I don't say this about many things, but I've decided that the deliberately trashed knees is a look I'm now Officially Too Old to wear.

Like crows' feet, worn out knees are something one earns.

Wise reply of the week.

I still have one pair with pre-damaged knees. It's odd. I would be analogous to a new Harley, but beaten up with a hammer here and there, and artificial corrosion spots, to make it look 'road-worn' and experienced. And it would come at 150% the price of a simply new one.

We have become idiots. And we know it.

Well, I was being quite serious. I think every intelligent person nowadays often feels like being trapped in a system. A system that demands consumption to death; that scorns at old age and experience; that tries to seduce even our youngest into shopping and buying to the max. Even if the items in question are very questionable. I find the 'knowing' part of 'being used' so unsettling. Yes, one can say no, of course. But I have some idea that one will be perceived as the village idiot much sooner than ever before.
On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

I thought the same thing when I read that!
