Well I’m with you and Matt, Baron. But we’re definitely the political “out” group.

When a major political party decided to deny a sitting President the right to a vote on his Supreme Court nominee, and then the American people rewarded them for it - my faith in the American people disintegrated.

Of course, but you know asswipes like Hannity and Limbaugh (is he even still around?) will be puffed up with outrage years from now regarding whatever injustices they think the current Dem pres has perpetrated on an unsuspecting country. The question should be brought up to their face "yeah, but what about....?" Every time they try that tactic. It's Orwellian doublethink. One accepts evil from one's party while condemning said practices in one's own party.

It’s not even worth engaging them. They aren’t capable of good faith.

I didn't type that right. It should say one condemns evil in another party when one accepts said evil in one's own party. Or something like that..

Very Stable Baron wrote:You're probably right, Davey. But I'm with Matt. I don't think all of us are so cynical and when I'm a captive audience and Fox is on TV, my blood truly boils. Their hypocrisy and cynicism is truly astonishing and I'm gonna keep on being mad as hell about it. I'll be holding on to my fair share of outrage for what they've done to the discourse in this country.

I’ve often mentioned my predicament at work - sometimes I must endure FOX News for as much as an hour at a time. About a year ago, a couple of Rachel Maddow fans tried to reason with the logic of having something on all day long that not everybody liked. This only made the FOX fans that much more dedicated to having the FOX on at all times. I think they feel like they’ve won because people are forced to listen to it even if they don’t like it.

Anyway, I’ve tried to make my peace with it. Sometimes I’ll talk back to the TV but usually I just hum a catchy tune and get on with it. This has been especially hard since “Shithole-Gate”. I swear to God, with very few exceptions, most of the pundits and “journalists” on FOX News have been PRAISING the President for the words that have been so troubling to most. They straight up agree about the state of those countries and that we don’t want people from those countries to come here.

So, I’ve been biting my tongue a lot lately. Back right after Romney lost to Obama, I was working with a right winger who happens to be someone I enjoy very much. we are about the same age so our senses of humor & pop culture references are very simpatico. He’s proved himself to be a swell guy any number of times. So, he tried to engage me on some FOX horseshit issue like New Black Panthers or ACORN or something and I decided to let him. I told him EXACTLY what I thought about the New Black Panthers or ACORN or whatever then asked HIM why the hell he trusted what FOX News had to say about anything. He narrowed his eyes and asked me what I meant. I ticked them off on the fingers of my hand - New Black Panthers, the Romney Landslide, Weapons of mass Destruction, Chandra Levy... didn’t it bother him to trust a Network that was not only consistently. Wrong but SPECTACULARLY wrong time and time again? Then something amazing happened. According to him, on each and every one of those things - I was the one who was wrong. New Black Panthers ARE on every corner, ACORN IS stealing elections for Obama, Romney WOULD have won. Iraq DID have WMD etc..

So, recently he went from supporting Ted Cruz to supporting TRUMP and he dovetailed just as effortlessly from TRUMP’s supposed unelectablitly to BREXIT proving he would win.

So, FOX is telling this guy that the president is not racist while he says racist things and he’s going right along with that. Nowadays we talk about Gilligan’s Island and The Bee Gees and avoid politics but it bothers me more than those other things did because it IS racist to discount poor, beleaguered countries as shitholes. I’d like to give a guy I like very much the benefit of the doubt but I suspect, in his heart of hearts, he understands this.

But Trump is right. Those countries ARE shitholes. It's that bit of hard truth said out loud by a President which doesn't turn off a Trump supporter. Who do you root for when Groucho throws a pie in Margaret Dumont's face? "Well. I'm not going to watch that again. Groucho abused that poor woman." No, finally, a pol has stripped off the veneer of diplomatic niceties and says what he really means. Trump is telling truths and we like it. Too bad the truth teller is Trump. Bernie told similar truths and was loved for it. If Dems didn't couch their language they'd do a lot better. But couch they must because then they'd admit they're on the take and in the pockets of big donors.

I used to say that if only George Bush had said, yeah, we're fighting for oil. What, you don't need oil to run your car? Your shit don't stink? Sheeeeeit. Let's get that oil and keep it fer ourselves.

That is why I'm a Truther. Look you assholes. Face facts. There is no plane there!

Why are we letting people from those shithole countries in? Truth?
What truth, exactly? Norway is welcome!

If this is what “being a Truther” entails - you can have it. Go back to cutting and pasting. Your own posts are starting to make as much sense as a Pachinko Machine.

By those standards most of the States that voted for Trump are Shitholes too; they have crime rates, murder rates, incarceration rates, educational facilities and life expectancies that many African countries would consider a national disgrace.

And I doubt you would find any average Norwegians who would consider emigrating for Norway for a nano-second, why would they when they live in a Social democratic paradise with a huge sovereign wealth fund that looks after them from cradle to grave?

You'd get a few psychos, misfits and oddbods same as from anywhere, but the Norwegian guy I work with at the moment fell about laughing at the idea.

Nobody's perfect.

I am merely pointing out to you snowflakes that a little truth goes a long way with the American people. That explains why comedians like George Carlin are popular. They say out loud what kinder, more polite people - or those with hidden agendas - will not say. Oh, wouldn't you like to see a video of an actual bull in a china shop. Trump is demolition derby, car crashes, porn, graffiti, funniest home videos, Jackass, you get my meaning (not).

Whatever man.

I don’t think you are stupid. But you lack empathy on almost a tragic level. This has been obvious over the course of years...as far back as when you started a thread trying to get folks to respond to rape jokes as some kind of truth-humor or something.

Whether the countries he mentioned are fucked up or not - the notion of viewing their refugees as undesirable IS fucking obscene.

But hey...you want unvarnished language. So here it is: I think you should fuck yourself.

If the more polite political class would get real and be actually polite by not torturing, bombing, spying, just stop being hypocrites, well, then you might get the rubes' respect. In the meantime, it's all a show, a money game, a sham so why not have a moron pro wrestler for President. It's all become just a such a goof why the fuck not?

In one of his books travel writer Paul Theroux called it the "turd world."

The Clintons Didn’t Screw Up Haiti Alone. You Helped.
Trump has turned Haiti into the new symbol of Bill and Hillary’s crookedness. If only things were that simple.

By Jonathan M. Katz

… No two individuals, including Haiti’s own leaders, enjoyed more power and influence than the Clintons in the morass of the failed reconstruction following the deadly Jan. 12, 2010, earthquake, when a troubled country managed to go from catastrophe to worse.

Truths? Like, if your drunk, racist uncle is spouting hate at a family get-together? Those kind of truths? No, "we" don't like that.

That doesn't merit a place at the table.

His "truth" is founded in ignorance and fear. Let's be better than that, instead of gleefully submitting to humankind's worst instincts.

Agree with Snarf.

Also can’t help but say how facile those Jimmy Carter remarks actually are. Funny to see them held us as “brilliant” by people who’d generally dismiss Carter as a neoliberal.

So really - the 2016 election was all about globalization and income inequality? That’s what made people choose a billionaire king? The appeals to white nationalism weren’t part of it? Social media wasn’t a part of it?

I generally admire Carter. But such a lazy answer to that question!

“dissatisfaction with the existing system of politics”
I think that nails it pretty nicely. From TRUMP voters who distrust the very mechanism of government to Dems mortified by it’s leaders extending secret surveillance abilities to a man they’ve characterized as “unstable”

People are goddam dissatisfied. That’s a blunt fact.
