great stuff, but you might be giving yourself short shrift
It's kinda depressing for a music forum to be proud of not knowing musicians.

I love that Frigid Pink version - it sounds even better at 33rpm.

Re: Desert Island Discs - Pig Bodine
That was great, pb, cheers.
So many of those tunes are faves of mine too, especially the Dolphy, Coltrane and Mingus cuts. I'd never heard that Grass Roots tune, so thanks for that. Not really an obsession, but one of my first musical loves was early Alice too, and i'm pretty sure i have the 7" of the Frijid Pink tune tucked away somewhere in Australia - bought it as a kid at the Dandenong Markets in Melbourne's eastern suburbs one saturday, along with Lucky Starr's 'I've Been Everywhere' for 50 cents each ahh, memories.
Am i'm positive that Trouble tune is on a Def American comp. i've got somewhere too - never really liked that song, i'm afraid, post-70s Metal's not my thing - but when i played that clip you posted i had a flashback to Dan Baird's great 'I Love You Period' instead, from that same cd so cheers again.

Thanks,
Really liked the Grass Roots track, but must admit I struggled with the Jazz.

Short but sweet. I liked that Frigid Pink version too back when it was fresh even though I heard the Animals version first. It's a product of its time for sure.
That Birdland album by Coltrane was my first purchase by that titan and Afro Blue was one of the songs I was able to digest easily enough. The album as a whole took a while to sink in but I got smart (imo) and went back to his Prestige years so that I could get a handle on what he was doing. I'm surprised you picked a song from one of Dolphy's less known albums though I can't fault choosing him or that particular cut. That album is pretty far down the list for me of albums I enjoy by E.D. and you're right, such a tragic loss. If the doctors at that hospital had been looking for other things causes of his symptoms besides narcotic abuse/withdrawl he might have lived a lot longer.

Re: Desert Island Discs - Pig Bodine
love it. yer parents found you under a cabbage leaf? what a trip. my parents found me under a turnip tree. i mean, what are the odds??
i love most of yer tracks. frigid pink... the grass roots. oh man, chi chi and i were freaks for the grass roots. temptation eyes, sooner or later, midnight confessions. mind ya, my sister has a strange kinda band name dyslexia. to this day, she thinks the grass roots are the guess who and vice versa. i've given up trying to set her straight. she loves the right music, anyway. excellent spinners track (and spinners post. takes me back. wacky packages, my dad's station wagon.) i actually remember trouble, with their semi-sabbathy vibe. not bad. not bad at all. (i still struggle with jazz myself, but i *am* trying.)
i'll guess i'll let ya have the professor. i mean, i probably saw him first, in all those old sci-fi flicks. but think of the possibilities: he can help ya build a raft *and* he can help ya fight off the giant crab monsters. all good.
edit: damn. forgot my fave, the alice. brilliant.

I enjoyed the Frijid Pink. It tailed off after that!
