Top write-up, Michael. I was unaware you were into Bach and such, you've explained the circumstances and appeal of it really well.

I know what you say about college radio - it really is a fantastic education being involved in it, but you sure meet some weirdos.
"U2 routinely spent a year in the studio...I have a theory: if you put four monkeys in the studio for a year with Lanois and Eno and Lillywhite, they would make a pretty good record, too."

A great read indeed! Music certainly can reflect very well the trials and tribulations of life- that certainly is refelcted here very well.

The thought of the Line-label made me smile.

I was just thinking of "'Til I Die" and how it could've been on this list.

Anyway, it's been fun to read reactions. Thanks, Cool Cats!
Glad y'all liked it!

I can't say I'm "into Bach," like a lot of crazy people are. But it's the best shit ever and that's good enough for me.

The radio experience was excellent. My description of the people wasn't as charitable as it might've been, especially since I really grew to love most of the local nuts who kept the place when the students weren't around. There was a former Yippie who ran a book shop and did classical, a failed hippie who lived with his parents, the late great Mr. Mark, a guy who had taken Robert Fripp's guitar classes in West Virginia (Fripp did benefits for us from time to time), and a ton of other drama kings and queens. The really good, obvious stuff in the station's vinyl collection had been pilfered through the years, but you could still find plenty of gold in the hills. I sometimes regret being so far away, because I could be a thousand times better now than I was then, and (if I do say so) I did a better job than most students. As zphage pointed out, the Lehigh Valley was also a hotbed of Anglophilia. It was just bizarre. You could get the latest Moose single (or whatever) on import just down the street. Those kids were really strange.

Probably time to send this one to the place where these threads go to die, eh?

I didn't really say much about this, and I don't suppose I will now, but it turns out that my home of 5 years, Texas's longest-running independent record shop,* is closing next month. It's a doggone shame.

* Now that I think of it, there may be a store in Fort Worth that takes that title. I would defer to meethesonics.
