I'll find some time to read this tomorrow, but first I'd like to congratulate you on your smuggling abilities. 9 songs!

A fascinating history there! I haven't listened to the songs I don't know yet, but will do so shortly. Well done indeed.

Forgot to say, your mother looks lovely in that picture.

The great thing about this series is you feel you get to know BCBers a little better; and this is certainly true here. That's a remarkable family history, and I'd echo Carol's comments above - that's a splendid photo of your mother. Really good read. Thanks for sharing.

thanks everyone! it was fun writing it!

it bought back quite a few memories in deciding what to put in... there were dozens and dozens of songs and artists to choose from.. ones which in a way are more representative of the genres and music that I listen to on a more daily basis... but this was more about a few songs that evoke memories from periods in my life.

still.. I do wish I'd managed to fit in one from the stiff little fingers years :D

I've never really opened threads from the desert Island discs because I didn't really know what the whole project was about. Aren't I glad I did. This was lovely. Also, I love Morgen (AND jessye norman), it's one of my pieces I sing, but know I can always make more beautiful. Glad you like it too!

There's been several really good DIDs but this is the best yet, Ms Quix.

And the Donna Summer? - sublime choice...

Quix, that really is a most delightful write-up. Your Mum really must've been one hell of a character.
Is she still alive and if so, what's she up to these days ? Also, what about your sister - what's she more or less done since the '70s ?

Thanks for the fantastic write-up.

Totally agree. Enjoyed reading your story a lot, quix, and the Stevie, Donna and Marvin have been life-long favourites for me too. Cheers.
