Good read. Interesting to take in the personal stuff alongside the musical choices.
Oh, and you made me put on Endless Summer.

I really loved this one, especially as your tastes are a bit outside of the BCB mainstream (if such a thing exists). Very well written, and very entertaining to read!

Yes! I loved that bit, but it's only a small part of a very well written story.

Re: Desert Island Discs - Bleep 24th Sept
this was incredibly well written. i was enthralled, from first to last.
it's funny... i realized as i started it that i don't you at all. ya know, as BCB posters go. i'm not sure why that is. maybe it's just becuz our musical tastes are so very different on the whole that we don't really come into threadly contact with each other all that much on the board. or maybe yer one of those people who happen to be allergic to me and who therefore avoid me like a giant case of flying cootie-laced epizoodacs. or maybe it's just a fluke, and that's what this thread is for. whatever.
but i know you better now. heh.
if yer not writing somewhere, ya should be. i think yer style is almost deceptively addictive. it's not just yer opennness, yer candor, yer insight, or those lil zinger lines that come zoomin in from nowhere... i think you really have a flair for narrative description. reading yer entry was an absolute pleasure.
i have no idea who the fucque jaroslav hasek is. i'm gonna go look him up now.

I finally found some time to read and listen mate...nothing like a bit of travelling to broaden the mind and open the senses. What did you make of Australia?
Loved the final piece- was listening to Part's Alina and Tabula Rasa this afternoon and that slotted well home. And hey, i still have Escape From Television which still sounds cool to these ears.
Good one!

I liked Australia, but not enough to want to stay. In the pre-internet days I felt woefully disconnected from things, but wonder if in this age it might be a bit different. I would like to return, maybe to live at some point, but realistically I don't think it'll happen unless both of us make enough money to retire. The outdoor lifestyle appeals more and more as I get older.

Beautifully written. That was an interesting read for me; I lived in Sanderstead until I was almost 12 and often visited relatives in nearby Selsdon and like you I went to Trinity (in 67/68) and hated it. My best friend from junior school went there too but of course they put us in different forms, the bastards. Luckily we moved up north after I'd been there a year.
