I enjoyed this entry. Nice and personal and rooted in the moment.
And that John Foxx pick captures nicely that 'shock of the new' feeling when electronica emerged in pop music.
Well done!

Indeed- all of the above sentiments!
Foxx' introduction in my life came through the very Eurocentric Europe After The Rain which captured the essence of the New Romantic far better than Duran Duran for me....

Re: BCB Desert Island Discs - Moleskin, May 29th 2011
this was another wonderful entry. kudos, comrade.
ya know, one thing i love about these entries: however individual, personal, intimate, unique, they are, i always find something so very relatable in them, something connectible, no matter how far removed they might be in place or time. comrade, yer early section talking about yer older sister, the beatles singles and stuff after, just the process of yer exposure to the music, born as you were in 65, hit many an inner chord with me (born as i was in 63, getting hand-me-down beatles from an older sister and two older brothers). reading yer description became a sort of flashback for me. the place setting doesn't matter all that much, in the end. heh.
then, of course, there's the tolkien.
another thing i love about these entries: the flatout skill in keeping it all together. you, comrade, and thesiger managed to balance a whole biographical canvas, anchored in music, deftly. quaco, i think, focused more on a bio-musical aesthetic, if that makes any sense, but in all cases, the ability to mold complicated ideas and feelings into a wonderfully readable whole is impressive. i'm envious. i can't even keep a single post (such as... um, this one) under control.
i'm thinkin the original BBC show has not a damn thing on the BCB show. i'm being serious here, people. hrmph.

The lack of any Prog on your island is disappointing
Another absorbing read and some good listening (except for The Smiths, obviously).

Several genres of interest to me are not represented; I didn't pick a jazz or soul track either, but then I didn't start exploring prog/soul/jazz in earnest until 2000 or so. It does occur to me that I ought to have mentioned Tubular Bells, which my sister owned, and which I've bought in several editions over the years.
