Bit too much info there, Belle.

Well, after putting it off for a while (since it's...not exactly his favorite place in the world) we took Jack to the vet this weekend and got, all things considered, a pretty good report. In addition to saying it's not as aggressive a strain of cancer as we feared (as evidenced by the fact that he's still here), we also had him hydrated, and a blood test done. The blood test showed his organs were all in surprisingly good shape (though he is still vomiting a lot and is really skinny, and does still have a tumor, etc...). We also, to our relief, won't have to keep him hydrated at home. We would have done it if we had to, of course, but one less thing to put him (and us) through is always good news.

Add to that the fact that he's a tough little guy, and it seems like he might stick around for a while yet. He was prancing around like he owned the place last night. Not exactly a new lease on life, but he's clearly not at death's door well past the point we assumed he would be.

Can you believe three months after the last post we're still talking about him as a living, breathing being? This is one badass cat!

Again, he's not doing well by any means- he's pretty lethargic and he throws up basically every day, and he continues to get skinnier and skinnier. But he's just had a heaping helping of canned tuna, he's sitting on his blanket, the sun's streaming in the window, and he's curled up in a perfect tiny little ball. He's got what I imagine to be a contended smile on his face.

When he finally slips away for good- and we know it's coming, but we've been prepared for months and he's obviously in no hurry- I bet he'll have that same expression. I've never known a cat as talented at making the most of what life hands him. He's my hero.

He'll know when it's time and from the looks of things, he's planning to stick around for awhile yet.

Hang in there, Jack.

Jesus Dave, how many times have I told you not to share your heroin with the cat ?

Funny I was thinking of Jack the other day. What a guy? He's a stubborn wee fella isn't he?

Good man, Jack.

I'm so glad he's in good spirits.

He's got more lives than Edwin Starr.
One night, an evil spirit held me down
I could not make one single sound
Jah told me, 'Son, use the word'
And now I'm as free as a bird
