Losing a dog, as I found out last year, is far more traumatic than I would ever have believed, even when you know they are old and on the way out.

We got another dog almost immediately and that worked for us, it allowed Mrs Copehead to focus on another little waif who needed a home, but I know that is not the right move for everyone.

Condolences, but the memories will continue to make you smile, they do me.

Only just had a chance to respond to this. I am so sorry, he was a wonderful mutt and Mad Bob promises that he will toast him with his meths tonight.

Bye Bye Bosco, you'll be missed.

So his ashes were returned to the vet's today and we went to collect him

I walked him back through the park as usual, but this last time he got carried all the way.
he'd have appreciated that.

We're on our way home.

me too.

I'm determined to celebrate the little fucker though.

"So of one thing I am sure,
It's a friendship so pure,
Angels singing all around
My dog is so fine.

Yeah, ain't but one thing to do
Spend my nat'ral life with you,
You're the finest dog I knew, so fine.

When you're old and your eyes are dim,
There ain't no Old Shep gonna happen again,
We'll still go walking down country lanes,
I'll sing the same old songs,
Hear me call your name."

John/Sam, only just spotting this and very sorry to read your news :(

Never had a pet myself, but can appreciate the magnificent bond between man and his best friend.

My paternal grandfather died when I was 15 (he was 84), all my life his dog Rover was constantly by his side. When Grandad died, Rover left the house and sat at the doorstep, never setting foot in the house again while visitors had to step over him to enter.

A couple of days after we buried Grandad, we buried Rover too...

Um I must apologise if I cause any hardship on the loss of your dog. I only read the first line and commented without thinking. So sincerely sorry again.

An awfully sad story,John.
But I'm rather hoping I do not follow Rover's example.

The tale would be rather more dramatic in reverse

Sam, if you find John lying on the doorstep, give him and kick and tell him to get on with it...

Yeah I know, still I know how some people can become close to pets so no harm in saying sorry anyway.

Shit, guys. I should have fucking known.

Anyhow, yeah - horribly sorry.

He was one of the best walks I've ever known - no bother at all, real cooperative, sweet and gentle. As unimposing as a cat.

Treasure the memories and just try to be patient with the loss. He was a lovely fella.

Thanks
Yes he was.
A gentle, sweet little soul.
And very like a cat.

In a way I am glad that I will never find another quite like him.
It is testament to his unique character.

But my life feels very empty without him :(
I'm not sure how long I can go without taking in another who desperately needs a home.
I feel it is my duty to the cosmos.

Well Man City took Tueart so I guess that leaves you Terry Garbett.

Apologies for the insensitive nature of the above on this thread, put it down to lack of sleep and the fact that I am an insensitive bastard.
