This is the list Gater sent me for the BCB plate in April 2007. Apart from a few PMs and CD swaps, I reckon it is as deep a view into his soul as I ever got so I will be playing it in his honour this weekend, even the Bruce Springsteen. RIP.

Lonely Bull-Herb Alpert & The T. Brass
Sad Lisa-Cat Stevens
Youngstown -Bruce Springsteen
Looking For A Leader-Neil Young
Soul Kitchen-Patti Smith
The Sea Refuses No River-Pete Townshend
Star Star-The Rolling Stones
Cocaine Blues-Johnny Cash
Pop Singer-John Mellencamp
Tom Waits-Just The Right Bullets

Sorry to hear this terribly sad news.

I didn't have much contact with Gater over the years but things we did share were significant.

Thanks for everything, Holly & Robert, you rest in peace, mate.

I met him at a Philly Jolly-Up in 2004, when I also met regulars Sambient, T. Berry, and Ray K. He was a great guy. Laid back and seemingly easy to get to know. I always assumed we'd get to spend more time together. I'll always remember singing "Carmelita" with him at the open-air luncheon we had.

RIP, Bob. You'll be missed.

I've only just logged in and seen this news.

Speechless. I really enjoyed his presence on the board too, such a friendly poster.

My thoughts go out to his family and friends.

RIP Gater :-(
It's before my time but I've been told, he never came back from Karangahape Road.

I didn't notice this thread whilst all that other nonsense was going on. Puts it all into perspective.

I wasn't familiar with Gater, but i'm not going to let that stop me from sending my condolences and regards to his family.

Cancer is an evil thing, i watched my own father go through a very similar experience only a couple of years ago.

What truly terrible news. My love and profound sadness goes out to his family. Gater was a real benefit to us here. I'm very saddened by his passing.

How tragic to lose both parents in one year, both in their mid-50's. I can't imagine it. I wish Holly strength and patience in these trying days.

Rest In Peace Gater. Your enthusiasm and good humor will be missed by those who loved you and all your friends here at BCB.

My thoughts are with his family and friends. May they find some peace of mind in memories of a man who, from all I've read, was truly a good person.
