RIP GATER

Postby Walk In My Shadow » 30 Oct 2008, 18:23

Sad sad news, my friends. Here's an e-mail I received today from his daughter Holly.
I enquired yesterday about his health.

Hi Yves,
I'm glad you emailed my dad, This is Holly, his daughter. My dad passed away this past Sunday. By the time he was diagnosed, the cancer had spread a bunch and the chemo couldn't help him. The fluid that was building up in his stomach started collecting in his lungs and it was just too muchf or his body to handle. He was in a hospice unit for 5 days and passed away Sunday morning.
I wanted to make sure that I got in touch with the black cat bone community somehow. BCB was my dad's favorite hobby. Its all he talked about.
We are having a memorial for my dad this comign Saturday and at it we are going to play a CD he made for me a few years ago of songs he wanted played at his funeral. I don't know if he ever shared it on BCB, but I can send it to you if you don't have it. At my mom's memorial my dad passed out flowers from her garden, so we thought it would be nice to pass out this CD, because he loved sharing music so much.
I'm sorry to deliver such sad news, but all of you brought alot of joy to my dad's life, and if you don't have that CD I would be happy to send it out to you. I also came across some pictures from a Jolly-up, I can send you those also...

Holly

I believe Robert was 54, my age.

RIP my dear friend. I'm sure all of us will mourn you.
Thank you Holly for letting us know.

My sympathies to his family. By all accounts (and in my limited dealings with him) a dear, sweet man.

Another sad loss. Thanks to Holly for the thoughtful note. I would definitely like to know what's on that CD, it would be a good way to remember him.

I sent Holly our condolences and asked her if she would make me a copy of said cd.
A soon as I get it I can copy for those who would like it.

I never got to meet Rob, and we were both disappointed that we didn't get to meet when I was in Philly, but he was keen to speak, and we called each other when I was there.
I can't claim to have known him, but he was a decent man, and a cool guy, and most importantly, he was one of us, in every way.
A very sad loss.

Very sad news.

A while back I read this on the Group Hug thread, post ten things about yourself.

Gater wrote:I'll give it a try.

1. I'm fifty two and feel nowhere near it. I think back of how I thought my father was old when he was in his fifties and I in my thirties, sorry dad.

2. I've been married and faithful to my wife for twenty nine years.

3. I wish I had managed money better, it looks like I'll be working the rest of my life.

4. I haven't had a drink or cigarette in fourteen years.

5. As I get older I find it harder to find music I like. One of the great things about this place is the new and interesting stuff I've been turned on to.

6. I cannot believe in organized religion any longer.

7. I'm embarrassed to say I never voted until I was thirty nine.

8. Look up procrastinator in the dictionary and you'll see my picture.

9. I wish I would read more, but there always seems something else to do.

10. Almost everything I do now is for shits and giggles.
