No it is necessary. My tastes are just too far way from the BCB mainstream, and I've known this for a while. Mix Club isn't the place for me.

It's your call but its a shame when anyone departs this group.

in particular regarding your departure it's a shame when someone with tastes away from the mainstream departs - that makes the group less interesting than it was with your inclusion.

And it's a shame because of the nature of your departure. Regardless of whether Bhoy's review was personal or not (and I won't give my opinion) it's one review from 20 or so of us. The rest of us miss the chance to recieve one of your discs in coming months and you ours. It's a shame that's not reason enough for you to stay.

It's your call and your loss and our loss.

Like I mentioned on the reviews thread, I, for one, would've been very happy to get your disc - mix club, for me, is a way to hear a bunch of stuff I'm not familiar with. Apart from two or three of the bands on the disc you made, I'm unfamiliar with most of the rest of it, so it would've been perfect for me. I think a lot of people in mix club are the same.

Getting the discs without any idea of who the artists are, or what's coming up next, it really brings me back to those days when I was first getting way into music - before the internet, and back when I was first discovering college radio, and how I'd either get an album based on the cover/some name I recognized on the back cover/the label it was on, or whatever, or how I might here a track on the college radio station that I loved, and (because this was pre-cell-phone) how I'd sit around in the car for the next 30 minutes waiting for an airbreak so I'd finally get to find out who did that track that I loved - Mix Club has been the same thing for me, and it is really the only way I've been able to get that in the last ten years or so. And it's great!

Obviously, not everything is gonna work for everybody - some mixes just don't connect with recipients as well as others do - but please don't give up. The more people whose tastes are "outside of the BCB mainstream," the better - that just means there are more surprises on future mixes we each receive!

Well, in truth, I've felt my discs have been uninspired for a while, often relying on the same narrow circle of artists, so I haven't been happy with how things have been going. I only want to be part of this if I feel I can offer something positive from my point-of-view. I actually took a few months off anyway as a result, only rejoining for January.

I'll definitely take February off as I'm just too busy (the BCB Cup won't organise itself, after all...). March, I'll see about. If (and it's a big if) I can come up with a fresh idea that I feel excited about, I'll consider rejoining.

Today wasn't a good day for a number of reasons. That's why I overreacted to a bad review - I just snapped after some bad experiences at work.

Fuck it, I think Mix Club is one of the most enjoyable aspects of the board, and I don't want to be part of it's decline. Count me back in, and I'll give myself a kick up the arse to get reinvigorated...

I agree with JohnK on this- it is one of the most enjoyable parts of the board and with Sixstring, Ange, and Nolamike- three people who I've shamelessly stolen musical ideas from now in the club I feel like I can't miss. Based on John K's recent now playing run I would be pretty lucky to get one of his too-plus I've gotten through Magilla, Jumper K, and bhoywonder relatively unscathed. Actually I look at that list and even though it's only 20, those are 20 pretty great names there. So even though my wife gave me those sideways glances (Please help parent) while I wrote those reviews and reveals I'd like to come back.

So here's the deal people. I meant to send matches out last weekend but had to work at short notice, so this will probably be next weekend now.

Following discussions elsewhere concerning the frequency of Mix Club (general consensus If it ain't broke don't fix it) and given that January has dragged on a bit (carry over from Christmas season no doubt), my proposal is as follows.

Feb will start late as mentioned above. Given that Feb is a short month anyway, I'm going to give us all a chance to catch up and fast forward to April, although I am intenidng to issue this early 20-27th March or so. This should mean two extended months rather than feel like missing a month.

Therefater we should be back in synch and I'm happy to pick this up again on a strict monthly basis.
