I'll have to drop out for June ... really busy at work, to the extent that I still haven't done May's disc yet ... my apologies to my May recipient. In fact apologies for two reasons ... that it's late and also that it's coming from me!! :(

I'm out for June. This whole unemployment thing is leaving me in an unmotivated funk - I still have to review the May disc, and more shamefully, send out my May disc.

Sixteen. A new low?
One night, an evil spirit held me down
I could not make one single sound
Jah told me, 'Son, use the word'
And now I'm as free as a bird

Minnie's "Call TO Arms" got to me. Still a bit confused, even after reading the sticky. Hell, I hope I'm even doing this properly.

Matches will go out tomorrow.

Running behind schedule, but my excuse such as it is was to give a day or two for the recruitment drive to kick in. I didn't want people signing up this week and then being told I'd just sent out pairings for June and they'd have to wait a month.

I'm anxious to start my first. Though not really knowing the tastes of those in the mix club as well as I should, this could be really interesting regardless of who I get paired with.

Makes perfect sense. I usually use the weekend to make my mix and since it's Friday. No rush, though, if we can attract a couple more members.

I do a couple of different things. I've been in the Club here for about 6 months, I guess, and don't always know or care about the recipient's individual taste. That sounds harsh, I suppose, but I'll explain.

If you go back through the last few month's review threads you can see what your recipient sent out and what they liked about what they received. Also, if they post in Now Playing you can get an idea. To be honest I usually give a cursory glance and get a feel - they like soul or they like Power Pop or something. That's where my mix will start. Then I just start playing music and let the records/CDs take me where they do. I may edit from there but you gets what you gets.

Other times I have simply played music that I recently bought and want to familiarize myself with. I'll burn a CD of the last 20 or so singles I bought and edit it down to about 14 - 17 tracks for the mix. In that case you definitely get what you get. It's worked well a couple of times (I've received a couple of reviews that were very glowing and the CDs were considered to be among the favorite Mix Club mixes) and not so well (one mix was panned pretty unmercifully). But who can account for people's tastes. Mine included.

Welcome aboard, at any rate. When you are my recipient (I doubt I've ever typed that word so often before in my life) I'll make sure you get a most eclectic mix. All B-sides or something.
