Cutter's Way
I suppose I could have put this in the "recently viewed" thread, but I thought I'd draw a little special attention to this film. Most of us here have a love of the American films of the 70s. Would it be off base to single Cutter's Way out as the last great one?
Anyone else here love this one?

Greater than Orca?
Kidding aside, I don't believe I've seen it. But if you think it's that good, I'll rent it.

it's so good. John Heard has never been better and Bridges is as good as you've come to expect.
I like how they've made the mystery aspect of the film dependent on the theme of the film. it's an Ahab and the whale sort of thing in a lot of ways.
'cutter's way' may well be the last great film of that era largely because it wears the concerns of that era if not proudly then at least unapologetically. dynamite movie!

That or Straight Time with Dustin Hoffman. Can't remember which came last. Think they came out about the same time.

Re: Cutter's Way
I love murder mysteries in which the murder is beside the point. Does it even matter if the rich guy killed the girl, or is he just guilty of everything else wrong in the world? This (not Orca) is the kind of film you could stay up all night talking about. It is every paranoid conversation you've had about "the rich having their way with the rest of us and someday the people will rise up" taken to it's ultimate conclusion.
