Love the soundtrack, never seen the film

Postby Quaco » 27 Sep 2009, 03:48

Sometimes it happens. Sometimes it's a musical artist you like, sometimes you just hear/find the soundtrack and like it. It's always interesting because in the back of your mind, you wonder what the film is about, what scene accompanies certain music, what the visuals are like. Sometimes, you know something about the film. Sometime you know nothing except for a small picture on the album cover.

What are some of your favorite soundtracks for which you have never seen the film?

Some of mine:
Il Serpente (soundtrack: Ennio Morricone)
Notturno and La Via Della Droga (soundtrack: Goblin)
Raavan (Indian film - soundtrack: Jagjit & Chitra Singh)
Merry Christmas, Mr. Lawrence (soundtrack: Ryuichi Sakamoto)
All This and World War II (soundtrack: Bee Gees, Ambrosia, etc.)

Honorable mention goes to A Degree of Murder (soundtrack: Brian Jones), which I have on DVD taken from a very poor source. This is one film I'm dying to see a good print of, either in the theater or a good DVD.

Apart from the sections we watched at your house (and then visited the location - really cool!), I still haven't seen this. I've replayed the parts I did see in my head a few times. One I would really like to see in the cinema.

Nor this -

Which would be fun I think.

Honourable mentions to 'Brother on the Run' (soundtrack by Johnny Pate), 'CarWash', and 'Shaft in Africa'.
Of course, I was mostly stoned at the time.

I saw this in the theater a few years ago, and it was excellent. Seek it out! The music is about Zappa's best too.

You're thinking of Zabriskie Point. Both are excellent. More is probably better. I'm dying to visit those locations!

Doh! Early morning post!

Well add 'Zabriskie Point' to the list! You should go to Ibiza some time!

Pig, I have World's Greatest Sinner on VHS somewhere - when/if I come across it, I'll send it to you. It is well worth seeing - I'd buy it on DVD if it were available.

I'll second More, although after seeing La Vallee I'm not sure I want to see More! Great soundtrack, though. Ditto Zabriskie Point.

Then there's Up The Junction (fantastic Manfred Mann soundtrack, though I've read that the movie isn't much) and Here We Go Round The Mulberry Bush (Spencer Davis Group and Traffic).

And Ascenseur Pour L'Echafaud (Miles Davis).

I know there are others, but I'll have to think about it...

Wonderful soundtrack I've loved for 35+ years ... still haven't seen the damn thing.

Model Shop - I've heard that's pretty stinky, but Spirit's soundtrack is a gem.

I've never seen Natural Born Killers, and it doesn't attract me at all, but I somehow ended up with the soundtrack on CD and like it very much, mostly.

It's quite good, as I recall, despite having David Bowie, who I consider a poor actor, in it. Tom Conti and Sakamoto himself both turn in good performances.

It's pretty tiresome, I have to say, centering on a very disagreeable protagonist. I really liked La Vallee, though.

So you don't like the idea of taking heroin on a Mediterranean island with a beautiful, crazy blonde? What the fuck's your problem?

Been there, done that. It's overrated.

It's just that the character is really annoying. The movie would have been much better without him!

When I was in Germany, I visited Munich and met up with the actor who played Stefan, Klaus Gruenberg!
