the reckoning

I wasn't even sure whether I was going to watch it. However, in terms of performance, Coogan is magnificent. In fact, all of the cast are excellent.
The story? Skin crawling. It teaches us nothing new, he was a monster. People knew. Lots of people knew but he was too valuable a commodity for BBC, and if he continued to raise millions for charities, he couldn't be all bad, could he?

Not sure about this Chris, not really something you can say that's entertaining or that you've enjoyed watching is it?

I think creates more questions than it has tried to answer, if that is what it is trying to do, and I think the BBC have shot themselves in the foot rather. To be honest I don't really know what we are expected to get out of this programme, other than what was suspected and known already - why did the BBC want to show it, was it to own up to their mishandling/mistake/guilt what is the point?

He was allowed to get away with it for so long and by so many people in high office, despite so many knowing, what is the point of showing him doing so? As you will surmise, I'm rather baffled about the intentions with regard to showing this.

Only seen a couple so far but you're right about Coogan though, an excellent performance - mind you all actors prefer to play monsters don't they?

Obviously, what makes it even harder viewing is the fact that he died before he faced any charges.
On a more basic level, what if Coogan is nominated for a BAFTA for his portrayal? What if he wins ???? This isn't Hopkins winning an Oscar for Lechter, this is Coogan playing a real monster.

Interestingly the review in the Sunday Times Culture section really didn't rate Coogan's performance, perhaps Saville was even more of a monster than he portrayed?

Yes, the performances were superb.

An uncomfortable but compelling viewing

We 'enjoyed' it.

I read that Coogan was uncomfortable about the morgue scene and much of it was cut out
