The White Lotus spot: LOTS Of SPOILERS

*** SPOILERS EVERYWHERE***

I read recently that there is a trend for entertainment focusing on dreadful, entitled people having supernatural/awful/life changing experiences, like some kind of adult version of Willy Wonka's guests. I don't watch enough television to know if this is true but I have been blown away recently by watching both series of The White Lotus. If you haven't seen it, don't read any more of this- just go and watch.

Standout performances: most of these people I had never heard of before-

Image

Murray Bartlett as Armond- even as he is being polite to guests, you can see the disdain oozing from his pores- beautifully done

Image

Meghann Fahy as Daphne- not as much of an airhead as we all thought, eh! Like a sweetly simmering pot. Ouch.

Image

Sabrina Impacciatore as Valentina- watching her unwind is a joy

Image

Leo Woodall as Jack. In lots of ways his was the character that terrified me most. The slow build to establishing what he was all about. Woah. The scene where Jennifer Coolidge finds out for sure that he is not who he says he is. You know which scene I mean! Talking of Jennifer-

Image

Jennifer Coolidge as Tanya McQuoid. I urge you to go and watch her acceptance speech for her awards for the show - which made me love her all the more. Her emotional shuffling through life was so wonderful. May she get a billion more parts after this - or whatever she wants. What a legend.

In summary - worth your time. Prepare to be unnerved and plagued with general unease- - as well as thoroughly entertained.
