1960s Nouvelle Vague director, Agnès Varda, has died, aged 90. The Belgian-born woman director will forever be associated with such key new wave works as "Cléo From 5 to 7", but in actual fact, Varda never faded; she did well on the festival circuit throughout her long and illustrious career. Supposedly Agnès Varda had seen only one film – "Citizen Kane" – before she made her directorial debut with "La Pointe Courte" in 1956. it was the first film to play with chronology, an effect which became the central tenet of the nouvelle vague movement. In 2017 she became the first woman to receive an Honorary Academy Award, for her life's work. Likewise, she was the first female director to receive a rare honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival in 2015. Appearing in public as late as 2018, Varda told a London BFI audience, "I wanted to invent cinema, and be happy to be a woman. I wanted to be a radical." RIP Agnès Varda
