When's this script you're writing going to be filmed, Markus?

Probably never, but if you want to hold your breath............

He gave credible performances in Deliverance and Boogie Nights. Apart from those, was his whole career just Smokey and the Bandit-type nonsense or what?
Yep, that's all it was. And Smokey and the Bandit was a good movie compared to some of the drek he was in.

I heard him quoted once that he does the bad films so he can do the good ones.

I'd like to see that again in fairness. In my head I just think it's Natural Born Killers crossed with Dumb and Dumber.
(Burt) Reynolds might indeed be the right answer. But I always think of him as someone who never took his acting very seriously so I wouldn't necessarily expect him to be in any good movies. Someone like Pitt or Depp are both marketed as serious actors, and clearly also think of themselves in that capacity, but there's nothing to back it up.

That's his story.
He went through a dreadful run in the late seventies to mid eighties.
But I think we sometimes underestimate how hard it is to get good parts, especially if you're an actor who's been around the block and no longer considered 'hot'.

.
It was a decent film, not great. Pitt was pretty good to be fair, but he just acted a neanderthal redneck. It wasn't the most complex role.

oh, I FAR prefer "Kalifornia" to "Natural Born Killers". NBK was overblown and overstylized to my way of thinking. the characters in "Kalifornia" can be found in any bus station in North America.

I think Burt Reynolds didn’t suck in “ the longest yard”.
He might have sucked but managed a certain amount of star quality in “Gator” & “Sharkey’s Machine.
I think he’s a little overrated in Boogie Nights/a little underrated in Deliverance.

I actually like “hooper” too. Not as back slappy as those things would soon get. Hal Needham could do reasonably entertaining mayhem in those days.

I'd contrast someone like Brad Pitt with George Clooney who not only is in quite a few good films, but also has a strong record of lifting pretty average movies into something much better (in my opinion).

I'd put Denzel in that category too. that new thing he's in as the lawyer... it doesn't really look all that promising but I really like watching the guy.

George Clooney is possibly the closest thing we have to Cary Grant today.

So, did Depp and Pitt jump in a truck one day and start running over people's dogs and such ??...It's the only way to explain the out of whack hatred they get...

Depp does have a restraining order on him due to domestic abuse allegations, so I can understand people not liking him. Obviously beating your wife is much more acceptable than feeling up a stranger so his career has not been affected.

He did it in a comedy Keef voice though, so that's ok.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Not hatred - they are just bad actors in bad movies. There’s nothing new in that.
