I just watched the most extraordinary film: I recommend it.

Allan King's 2003 documentary is set in the Toronto Grace Hospital, a Salvation Army hospital and it follows over a period of 14 weeks a handful of characters as they are admitted to hospice care and die. All participants agreed beforehand that the entire period of their care could be filmed - up to and including the moment of death. It is by far the most graphic and accurate representation of the process of death and caring for the dying that I have ever seen and I understand that that doesn't float everyone's boat, but it's truly, truly captivating.
