Holy shit! I'm getting old. Not as old as Sam Shepard but old. I remember seeing his movies and having the ladies in attendance get a little swooney. I always found him a very capable actor - old fashioned in a good way. Reviewers seemed to reference guys like Gary Cooper when talking about him. He maybe didn't have a twinkle in his eye like Gary Cooper often did but he had that rock-solid quality. "The Right Stuff" should get him into movie heaven if there is such a place. if there isn't, maybe there should be. R.I.P.

Shame on the Times for not mentioning his stint as drummer with The Holy Modal Rounders! No wonder they're failing.

R.I.P., sir.

Days of Heaven even more so.

Having been an actor in the 80s (when his influence was greatest) - I'll always think of him as a playwright first.

He wrote and produced his best plays during a 10 year run in San Francisco at the Magic Theater. Probably why I remember reading about him so much as a young teenager just getting interested in literature.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

Just came here to post that. For sure there's a bit of a conflicted portrayal of him in Just Kids, and this is a very nice post-script. Loved him in Frances, the first movie i saw him in and a favourite of mine growing up.
