American Gods

Postby Penk! » 08 May 2017, 13:41

I've watched the first couple of episodes of this and can't decide what I think of it. I suspect it might be a bit rubbish.

Read the book years and years ago. With so much other stuff to watch, I really can't be arsed with Amazon Prime so I suspect this will get passed over.

Didn't really care for the book, though I love Neil Gaiman. I don't have Starz or Netflix or whatever this is on, so I guess I'll just skip it unless I hear some really good things.

Not really my thing but I thought the first episode was quite interesting and engaging.

The second episode - less so. The third was only interesting in what they managed to sneak past the censor but I gave up and turned it off.

Dunno if i'll bother with the rest.

I was a bit undecided at first but am really engaged right now. Contrary to The Prof I feel it's been getting better with each ongoing episode, slowly climbing out of the Zack Snyder Watchmen vibe it was sending off through its first episode or two. It's quite creative, the mythology is interesting and some of the sequences/microstories are really superb. So far this year's been damn good for television.

I think it is absolutely bonkers but I love it. I have no idea what is going on, but each scene is a joy. The opening scene of episode three was just beautiful. I have no idea what Lovejoy is doing in it though.

That sequence is a standout, I agree.

I wound up enjoying this much more than the novel. Hope the second season can survive the loss of the original show runners and Gillian Anderson.
