I love that aspect of it. The day after day after day grind of a life that he can't escape, punctuated by his realization that everything he does - everything - matters when he adds it up in his mind at the end of the day. The way he tries over and over to just get into Andy McDowell's character's pants, day after day, to no avail. The way he tries to save the homeless man day after day, to no avail, or saves the kid who falls out of the tree, or learns to play the piano over months of 'first lessons'. It's kind of sad but also really touching, and quite romantic when they fall in love, properly.
It's a funny but touching film for me, and the structure is an integral part.
