Richard Linklater films

Postby pcqgod » 02 Mar 2017, 20:11

Also looking for recommendations here, since there are quite a few that I haven't seen.

The ones I've seen:

Slacker
Dazed and Confused
A Scanner Darkly
Boyhood
Everybody Wants Some
Where would rock 'n' roll be without feedback?

I've only seen a handful of his films, but they're all REALLY good.

Boyhood especially was just amazing, but I really enjoyed Dazed and Confused and Before Sunset too.

I have Everybody Wants Some on DVD but haven't seen it yet. I've read lukewarm reports.

A Scanner Darkly, Boyhood, and The Before Trilogy are all highly recommended.

"Boyhood" is one of my favorite movies of recent times. There was a good discussion about it here, which I can't find.

"Waking Life" was really good too. A unique film.

"Bernie" was good dark-humored fun, though nothing brilliant.

I'm realizing I haven't seen many of the others. I've only ever seen parts of "Dazed and Confused," for example.

I loved 'Boyhood' as well. I thought 'Everybody Wants Some' was just untempered, gratuitous nostalgia.

Very fond of many of his films but Boyhood hit me the hardest emotionally.

Slacker
Dazed & Confused
A Scanner Darkly

Pretty easy to pick seeing as those are the only 3 from him I've seen.

I'm sure I'll see 'Everybody Wants Some!!!' eventually. I don't expect it to be as good as 'Dazed and Confused', but hopefully I'll get a few good laughs out of it.

It was surprisingly a reasonable adaptation of the original novel. Linklater captured the atmosphere and mind-screw of the novel well. Some disliked the film and there are legitimate issues with it, but I recommend giving it a watch before completely tossing it away.

Agreed. There were some moments I had to stop the film, because of the emotional intensity. It brought back so many different feelings and experiences from my past. It's his most personal film and obviously ambitious work, but he was able to make it relatable and accessible to most people.

I voted Slacker, SubUrbia, Waking Life.

I've seen six others, but I just wanted to comment that while I have much respect for the work that went into Boyhood I found it tedious and felt no emotional connection whatsoever. If that makes me a heartless bastard, so be it.
