Favorite movies STARRING Murray'?
He's fine in all four, but shines best in Lost in Translation in my opinion.
1. Lost in Translation
2. Groundhog Day
3. Broken Flowers /Scrooged - tied.
But this is very different than my Favorite Bill Murray movies which are:
1. Rushmore - My favorite movie with Bill Murray in it.
2. Quick Change - Quick Change gets far too little respect so I'm glad to see it get mention by folks other than me. Excellent film.
3. Stripes - One of my favorite ensemble comedy pieces.
And those are my Favorite Murray Characters:
1. Carl Spackler - Caddyshack
2. Dr. Peter Venkman - Ghostbusters
3. Steve Zissou - The Life Aquatic with Steve Zissou

Directed by Murray, uses Woody Allen's cinematographer and most of his crew. It's by turns surreal, funny, dark and goofy. I love it.

I don't really get what's so HILARIOUS about him. I mean, I know Americans who crack up just to look at him. 'deadpan' or whatever. Like ho fucking ho.
I like some of his films, tho'. He was the best thing about Coffee and Cigarettes (which was a dog of a film overall) and I enjoyed him in Lost in Translation and Rushmore.
And I've got a strong feeling there's one more that hasn't been mentioned yet that I really liked....

I didn't care much for Coffee & Cigarettes either and you are correct about him outshining everyone else in that. He's an endearing guy who seemingly effortlessly comes across as One of us! One of us!. That's his appeal to me, anyway.

Groundhog Day, Lost in Translation and Ed Wood.
Not a big Ghostbusters fan. Stripes has some very good laughs.

Groundhog Day. Lost In Translation. Scrooged. It's a pity he's really just stuck to Wes Anderson / Jim Jarmusch style indies (good as they are) or cameos for the last 15 years.

Do you really think he's stuck? I mean, he's rich and has the freedom to do pretty much whatever he wants. Maybe he's right where he wants to be.

No, I mean he's stuck to that style of movie and probably deliberately as you say.
