The Expanse (Syfy Original Series)
Anyone else watching this? Syfy tried to sell it as a "Game of Thrones" in space, but it more resembles a modern political thriller, updated to a future where the two main opposing super-powers are Earth and Mars and the third world is the asteroid belt, colonized and exploited for its mineral riches. It is a very detailed story-universe and you do need to pay attention while watching. If you enjoyed the realistic aspects of the "Battlestar Galactica" reboot, "The Expanse" seems like the belated successor to BG's hard sci-fi crown.

Re: The Expanse (Syfy Original Series)
I watched and enjoyed the first series. It wasn't Battlestar Galactica but it was a good mix of sci-fi actioner and hard-boiled noir, with decent production values and some good politics thrown in (though the actual political plot back home on Earth was comfortably the least interesting of the three main strands).
Some aspects were a bit wobbly - the silly accents, some of the acting (though Thomas Jane is great) - but the second series seems to have got a bigger budget and more care put into it on the basis of the first few episodes. The new soldier character is a bit of a boring cliché, mind.
It's good if you like that kind of thing, basically. Better than your average Stargate* whatever, but not top-level stuff.
*I only really figured out the point of Stargate when I was on paternity leave. It's basically perfect for dads: get up with a child at 6am and look, there's some spaceships and aliens you can have half an eye on without needing to pay attention to plotting, character or detail, while you spoon porridge into the toddler and so on.

Yeah the first series was probably my favorite show from last year.
Haven't watched any of the 2nd season yet, but will definitely catch up soon.

Renewed for a third season, despite disappointing ratings on Syfy.

Re: The Expanse (Syfy Original Series)
I've considered reading The Expanse book series before. It looks like an ambitious space opera with multiple characters and its own world. Probably something I'd greatly enjoy. I would read those before watching the series, though.

Already 4 episodes in! Going into an intense run of episodes, or so I hear.
