I'm enjoying it somewhat but the pace is pretty somnambulant. I'm also hoping that it's actually going somewhere and all the portentous mysteries that appear every episode actually get explained.

I'll keep at it a little longer, but the leash is pretty short.

Evan Rachel Wood just hinted that Episode 5 will be an event.

It's shaping up nicely. There's a bit of a lost feel to it, in terms of stories interlinking. The nudity in the actual westworld in the last episode was a bit over the top.

It's HBO, Markus. I think most people were surprised it took them five episodes to get to a big old orgy. I was at least amused by them cutting to a scene where the camera immediately panned to a great big cock.

As for the episode itself, it was a good shot of adrenaline just as things were starting to meander. It's still very wonky on the whole: the various plot strands are all interesting and the mystery and identity games are the big draw. Most of the main cast are doing a good job (thank God they jettisoned the shouty British guy: he should have paid more attention to Harris and Hopkins* if he wanted to learn how to chew scenery effectively) but there are a few big holes... such as how many fucking robots are running around out there? There seem to be thousands of the things, and yet there don't seem to be that many back in the compound when we see them getting repaired. How does Jeffrey Wright grab Dolores and chat to her every night, then put her back without anyone noticing?
*And speaking of Harris and Hopkins, their little sit-down (think Pacino and De Niro in Heat) was one anticlimactic weak point: it seemed to rob Harris of his intrigue and power.

I know, but even still.

I spoke too soon: he was back today, almost ruining another fine episode.

The story lines are getting a bit off track now, bit fuzzy.

I have no idea what the fuck is going on. For being supposedly such a smart guy, Hopkins' androids are going nutty.
Reminds me when Steve Jobs started NEXT.

Even I'm starting to lose patience with the current story lines. The plot about Maeve becoming increasingly self-aware and powerful has been crawling along nearly all season. The stuff with the maze is too mysterious and unexplained to invest much attention in, leaving the intra-corporate warfare storyline the only one that really grabs me right now. With two episodes left this season, we need a major event.

I have to read the weekly episode review on gizmodo.com each Monday to figure out what I saw the night before.

Re: Westworld: the next must-see cable series?
I get what's going on, it's just some of the "rules" of westworld seem to be getting ignored. Like the robots can't harm humans when they can clearly be seen to be. I know that opens up the question, are they human or are the robots? but why make it more complicated than it already is.

Isn't it that they can't kill humans? They can bash them around a bit, like Teddy did with Ed Harris or like the Confederados did with William's dickhead brother-in-law a couple of weeks ago.
I think it's been pretty good. Seems that every time I start to find a plot point a bit baggy, they tighten it up a bit (as they did last night with Maeve and the two science wonks).
I still have to suspend my disbelief at the sheer size of the enterprise, mind. A massive area, thousands of robots running around, but only ever a handful seemingly brought in for fixing etc...

The scene with willy's dickhead brother in law is what I'm talking about. I just assumed that the robots couldn't lay a finger on them. Anthony Hopkins still hasn't too with the chilling easiness he goes about his plan and the actions he takes.

I can see you've never been to Idaho.
I think the harming of humans plays on the original movie where the robots went rogue and killed people.

Got up to episode 4 and am in two minds as to whether to persevere or not. C4's Humans seems to address the same issues but in a much more accessible way.
