Woody's new series

Postby naughty boy » 15 Sep 2016, 11:25

Looks like it's populated by stereotypes and recycled one-liners - but I'm sure it'll still be worth watching.

No?

He's splashing about in familiar pools, it could be OK. And Miley X

Lee Morgan and the Jefferson Airplane instead of Dixieland jazz? Pass me my smelling salts!

Elaine May!

This looks like it could be really fun, actually.

Ha! Didn't notice that.

This could be just what Woody needs, perhaps he's ready to dip back into the earlier, funny stuff - a series eked out of the Coney Island Roller Coaster scene in Annie Hall.

Oh well, everyone hated "Vinyl" too. I'll make my own mind up, probably.

Surprised by how much pro-Woody 'how DARE you!' stuff there is in the comments.

I'm not. Charlie Lyne is a child controversialist, and not at all popular with the lentil-munching greybeards who comment in the Guardian

Not sure if I'll bother.

That Theroux documentary on scientology is also available, by the way....

Haven't braved the Savile one yet. You seen the Gibney (?) Scientology doc? "Going Clear".

Watched the first one last night.

It's worth it. Gentle and bubbles along, some nice long scenes where you're convinced the old bastards have forgotten their lines. I don't know what the deal is with Elaine Mays drinking but it's very funny to see her knocking glass after glass back, particularly at bedtime. Lovely misdirection too - a young woman is talked about at length, surely not Woody-bait?

No idea where it's going with the final scenes - I thought May was going to get killed off in a meta-murder (I don't write parts for women my own age eh? Take this!)

Would watch again. And Miley hasn't even turned up yet.

I watched the first three episodes and intended to continue, but... that was a few weeks ago. I may yet.
