1 good and 1 bad thing about TV
Good - Deadwood
Bad - the relentless use of music in all documentaries. I yearn for silence.

generally speaking:
good: the potential of TV is vast - still
bad: it's mostly used to peddle absolute garbage
specifically:
good: The Sopranos
bad: The X-Factor (and all similar shows)

There's an interview with Kraftwerk back in 1975 when they toured America where Ralf Hutter decries TV in general - he said something like "TV is an incredible technology and you put Bonanza on".

Good - enjoyable programs
Bad - at the worst time to eat, when I'm slumped in a chair doing nothing except with my eyes I get inexplicably hungry

Good: when you have big, world changing events beamed into your living room. Like the berlin wall falling or Wagner performing on X Factor
shows about Nazi UFOs and whatnot
Bad: adverts
Saturday night telly
The decline of channel 4
SKY buying up sports

I have to say that I'm torn - a lot of what I really enjoy watching is rubbish by anyone's standards. But like many simple ideas (it's a box that beams sounds and pictures from around the world into your home!) it really has almost limitless potential. It's an amazing invention.
I mean, it's still with us and it's still massively popular. The only 'problem' is that you're always the audience. You don't have to DO anything. I'm fine with that, but it sure brings out the snob in some people.

Good: HBO original programming.
Bad: Reality shows with people talking at the camera sequences.
Even worse: Non-reality shows with people talking at the camera sequences.

Re: 1 good and 1 bad thing about TV
Commercials are from hell.
I tried to watch a Holland friendly game about a month ago. Half time: 15 mins. brought 14 mins. of ads, some of them with repeats, to remind us stupid idiots that we shouldn't forget the wonderful product. All extremely loud. The hired expert (a former Dutch international) got 1 minute to say what he thought of the first half.
All brought to us, needless to say, by a commercial station (SBS in this case).
Some things actually WERE much better in the past.
A good thing, despite all the regression to infantilism: there are still decent series to see, and I don't mean Netflix or HBO or whatever. In two hours time I'll watch an uninterrupted and full episode of Scott & Bailey. Nice.

On the whole, I'd rather be in Wallenpaupack.

The news is 24/7, so I can just switch on, see if anything is happening, and switch it off.
The stupid cost, when I watch so little. I could easily live without a TV, but the only things I watch are films and sport, and they cost a shedload.

Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

Good: The ability to watch series' in one sitting through Netflix and the like
Bad: Australian TV networks deliberately holding shows back then complaining about piracy even though statistics always show availablity is always a bigger factor into "illegal" downloading than cost.

Good: There's always been good stuff, from the earliest days forward. You could spend all day listing the great stuff we've seen. Here's a picture of Burns and Allen to remind us:
Bad: The fact that every goddam bar has them!
