A Boy Named Charlie Brown was the highest-grossing movie for the week ending December 17, 1969, taking in about $290,000.

What's remarkable about this is that it was only showing on one screen that week (Radio City Music Hall in NYC) - it opened nationally at the end the month.

(It was also only the third animated feature ever to be screened at RCMH, and the first since the early '40s; Disney's Snow White and Bambi were the previous two.)

Yeeeeeeeeees, get in there!

http://www.fandango.com/movie-news/michael-bay-claims-there-are-14-more-transformers-movies-on-deck-752123

If you're looking forward to more Transformers movies, there's a new one coming out this summer. And another one next summer. And another one is due in the summer of 2019. And, well, according to Michael Bay, there are at least 14 Transformers movie ideas that could come to fruition in the foreseeable future.

Watched an interview with Scorsese from the southbank show from 1981. I'm naïve when it comes to cocaine, but if wasn't on it during that interview then I don't know. He couldn't sit still, he was sweating, he was saying yes then no to answers. Interesting to watch.

re: Son Of Flubber, IMDb wrote:In one of the most hapless marketing tie-in attempts in movie history, Hasbro Toys, in cooperation with Disney, issued a toy version of Flubber, marketed just before Christmas time in 1962. Similar to Silly Putty, in that it could bounce like a ball and make comic imprints, the mixture was a combination of rubber, mineral oil, and green food coloring that had been lab-tested with no ill effects and was marketed as being made of "a new parent-approved material that is non-toxic and will not stain." Within weeks, claims came pouring in to both Hasbro and Disney that the toy Flubber was causing full-body rashes and sore throats in many of the children who used it, resulting in several lawsuits by angry parents. Eventually, after much experimentation, and an intensive investigation by the FDA, it was determined that there was a property in the mixture, of unknown origin, that caused an infection of the hair follicles in certain individuals. The product was recalled, but disposing of it turned out to be an even dicier proposition. Trying to incinerate the mixture only produced a heavy, dense black cloud around the Providence, Rhode Island, garbage dump where the attempt was made. Working with the U.S. Coast Guard to sink the substance at sea turned out to be a fiasco, as well, as the next day almost all of the dumped Flubber came floating back into Narragansett Bay. Finally, it was decided to use the mixture as landfill, buried deep under the parking lot at Hasbro's new warehouse, just outside of Providence. A popular "urban legend" among Hasbro employees is that every year, during the hottest days of summer, you can still spot some of the mixture oozing through the cracks in the parking lot.

I just learned, to my astonishment, that Claudia Cardinale's voice in The Pink Panther (1963) was dubbed by an uncredited Gale Garnett, the singer-songwriter who would have a Grammy-winning hit the following year with her song "We'll Sing In The Sunshine". (She also voiced Francesca in the Rankin-Bass Hallowe'en perennial Mad Monster Party?, which is indirectly how I came to discover this.)
