BCB 100 - Smokey Robinson & The Miracles

Postby geoffcowgill » 27 Aug 2006, 18:25

The first three discs of the 35th Anniversary box set is astonishingly consistent in its miraculousness. The man was incredible in his prime, one of the most gifted singers, songwriters, and producers of the 60s. You take just what he did at Motown and that would have been enough to ensure its reputation, influence, and appeal. That box set has gobs of revelatorily great songs that you never hear on the radio, so I feel a bit foolish in choosing "You Really Got A Hold On Me", but that's the stem on the cherry on the top of the Everest of pop glory sundae. Hang on, and I'll try to mix a few more metaphors in there.

Favorite Album - Going To A Go-Go
