BCB 100 - Beck

I'm a Midnite Vultures man with no excuses. Give me the day-glo surreal funk over the sadsack earnestness of Sea Change any day. That said, I do like a lot of his more softer stuff quite a bit. "Jackass", "Lord Only Knows", "Guess I'm Doing Fine", those are all among my favorites. "Earthquake Weather" should get a shout, too. I think my pick is going to be "O Maria", though. I love the woozy, Kinksy desolation of that. It's a singular recording.

Favorite Album - Midnite Vultures

Favorite Song - "O Maria"

album: throw up the coin between Mutations and One Foot in the Grave
I like the whole 'Hunky Dory' aspect of Mutations but have a lot of fun with the songs on the other.

song:
mostly by virtue of it's tiltle: MTV makes me want to smoke crack

Great, though I still haven't picked up his last album.

Album: Mutations

Song: "Devil's Haircut"

This is the first time I've had no problem answering the album question, and struggled with the song question. Goldwax, if you're there (and not mistaking me for Geoffcowgill...), I am a confirmed songs guy...

LP: Sea Change or Guero; he's just getting better. Probably, Sea Change. Although that run of LPs since Mellow Gold is exemplary.

Song: Loser, I guess. So many to choose from.

A brilliant pastiche artist, the kind that engages my mind but rarely my soul. As with most artists of his type, the stuff I like best is the stuff where he's most being himself. Which for me is Sea Change, though I have a soft spot for Loser and Devil's Haircut.

Album - Sea Change
Song - Lost Cause

P.S. - When Loser came out, I thought he screamed one-hit wonder. Boy was I wrong.

Now, now, Rob.
I would never burn Dave--just "correct" him a little.

Wasn't Devil's Haircut a hit? And besides, hits don't only refer to singles.

Not a top 40 one.
And what do hits refer to then if not singles?

If you're talking about simply "good" songs that you hear on the radio then the vast majority of them are singles.

One of my favourites. Seeing him in Manchester on the Midnight Vultures tour rates as a contender for my favourite gig of all time.

ha!
you old hair splitter you!

"I thought he was going to be a one hit wonder"
one hit wonders usually go away.
Beck hasn't gone away.

I know people who wish he would be he hasn't

What he said.

We'll pick this up in person, Matt. And no, I'm not gonna do an anal chug.
