Favourite album (in spite of the shitty production): Various Positions

Favourite song (this second): If It Be Your Will - a song that can make me shed tears, possibly because of its use in the teen movie Pump Up The Volume with Christian Slater, a film that moved me a lot at the time.

Love him, one of the greatest poets in music.

While the production on some of his studio albums sucks, he often used really hot bands on his rare concert tours (I have a boot from 1993 that is positively majestic).

Strangely, and unlike every other woman I've been with, Mrs. Neige hates him

Album: Since Leg of Lamb chose a compilation, I´ll go for the best one, "The essential Leonard Cohen". It´s hard to find a more complete compilation job.

Song: of course, "Famous blue raincoat"

By the way, one of my better recent finds on Soulseek was a fair quality audience recording of Hal Willner's Cohen Tribute Concert (Brighton 2004), which featured Nick Cave, the McGarrigle sisters, Laurie Anderson, the Handsome Family, Linda & Teddy Thompson, Rufus & Martha Wainwright, Beth Orton, Jarvis Crocker, Julie Christensen & Perla Batalla).

Some really cracking versions there... 8-)

Leonard Cohen makes me wet my knickers.

I was listening to Sambient's radio channel two weeks ago and in between vacuuming the living room and cleaning the loo, I thought I heard the presenter play a song from a new album, performed by his partner who has co-written the tracks.

Am I imagining this? Did I mishear vital components of the commentary?

Not snotty at all. You are right. I juxtaposed album titles. I meant that Songs from a Room is my second favorite Cohen album. In truth I never think of those albums by thier proper title. I usually just think of them as "the first one" and "the one with the pretty girl at the typewriter" etc...

One of the songs is one that was on his last album, though handled differently.
I don't think I'd give this much attention were it not for the affiliation. Instead I'll play it alot on the air so people think they want it and help El Cohen's funds. I like how Produced by LEONARD COHEN has a place on the front cover. I'd rather hear him sing most of these songs.
They're moody enough to appeal to me. I'll have to see what sticks with me.

Sambient wrote:Favorite Song Famous Blue Raincoat. I wish I could say that one of his most famous songs isn't his best, or my favorite. I wish my affection for one of the others would surpass my acknowledgement of the truth of this song. The line that strikes the furthest depth for me, of so many good lines is: "Thanks for the trouble you took from her eyes. I thought it was there for good, so I never tried."

One of the most beautiful lines of lyric ever. This is definitely up there for me.

I know the later albums divide opinion, but I find Ten New Songs absolutely stunning. As far as I know, only Kid shares this view.

Sir, I echo you to the letter.

ablum: hmmm. "Songs of Love and Hate" should do nicely.
song: win:"The Guests"
place: "Take this Longing"
show: "Field Commander Cohen"

I'll never forget when the grownups discovered "Suzanne", they played it for weeks. the back cover picture of 'Songs of Leonard Cohen' haunts me to this day.

He sounds so spectral on this record. I could never get my head out of it once I heard it.
