Injunctions & Super Injunctions.

Can users please refrain from mentioning any of the celebrities and other personalities allegedly being referred to by the current series of injunctions. Any mention of these people could lead to serious legal issues for this site.

I have already had to delete several posts which claim to mention those being the subject of these injunctions.

We have had to co-opt several new UK based moderators to manage this problem.

As Smamf has left and Bhoy & Spaulding don't seem to be here as much - the masked man, Brotherlouie and Moddie been asked to join the admin team.
Jeth has been off and I'm on holiday which has left the board a bit shorthanded over the weekend (UK time).
They have asked me to point out that they are happy to help out in the short term and if anyone has any (proper) objections to their appointments they are happy to stand aside.
Otherwise, business as usual..... Except for the libellous stuff, obviously.

I strongly object. They're nasty people and they smell funny.

Yes, I notice that someone's edited a post in which I stated that people with certain initials had been named in internet rumours...but not edited the post I quoted, which flat out names a couple of people and states quite explicitly what they're supposed to have been up to.

This is the one I mean... several quotations on the following page too.

I think I've removed all the names. Can people take heed of JKW's opening post on this thread.
Thanks

You could put a 'swear filter' in to not allow the use of those names, although some of the more persistent posters may try to get round it.

Yes, people who run websites do 'give a fuck'.

No idea what this means. If it's only to do with British sports personalities I suppose I won't run afoul of the rule.

It's not just sports personalities. Injunctions have been taken out by a number of British public figures to prevent discussion of certain aspects of their lives. However, this is a blunt legal device and names get leaked onto the interweb. Twitter feeds inevitably reveal these names. To prevent legal problems for Jethro, no rumours or speculation relating to the identity of those who've taken out injunctions should be repeated here. Google the term 'superinjunction' if you want to learn more about this quirk of British law.

I see. We call it a gag order.

I was wondering though how we can refrain from discussing certain people if we don't know who they are. I suppose it's common knowledge who they are over there.

But how can these people not be mentioned in print if they're celebrities? I don't get how that's supposed to work.

They can still be mentioned in general terms - just not in connection with the alleged event covered by the injunction. However, this legal custom doesn't work, and is likely to be reviewed in the near future.
