So VAR decides that a player accidentally stepping on an opponents foot in the box, whilst on the turn and having looked absolutely nowhere besides where the ball is coming through the air, is guilty of fouling that opponent and that was 'clear and obvious' evidence to overturn the ref's decision not to award a penalty?

Really.

Wasn't even in the top 5 worst var decisions of the weekend. It needs scrapping, it's exactly the disaster I thought it would be. The new handball rule where perfectly good goals are ruled out for accidental handball can fuck off, too.

Fucking useless old codger our chairman .....

https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-m ... r-50184255

The chairman of Everton offered to make a personal donation in the region of £1m to help Bury FC during the club's recent battle to stay in the football league, the BBC can reveal.

Bill Kenwright made the pledge when the Shakers were locked in last-ditch talks over their future.

However, such gifts would be forbidden by Premier League rules made to prevent conflict of interest between clubs.

That was desperate yesterday - right back to the lows of the previous three managers. Yes Chelsea are unpredictable and can be superb when on form, but that doesn't excuse the clueless, spineless and guileless performance yesterday.

I'd think Carlo Ancelotti is already planning transfers out of the club for at least half of that shambles yesterday.

Without getting too carried away - to see three new signings step in and all play so superbly was a rare treat. Allan & Doucoure completely controlled the middle of midfield but James Rodriguez - different class, totally different class. So much time on the ball and seemingly so effortless. I doubt it will continue that way but that's the best I've seen Everton play in probably five years. They made Spurs seem like second raters.

By the way - what odds Mourinho gone by Xmas (again?)? :)

Allan looks the best of the buys.

Given City, Chelsea and United's shocking defence so far, Everton could be a Top 4 team if they continue to perform.

We would need a Leicester like season of non-injuries for that to happen. The trio added have been absolutely magnificent but the squad depth is still a major concern.

But I've said all along that Man City and Liverpool are way clear of the rest.... and with Wolves looking a bit disjointed, teams like Everton will fancy their chances of challenging Chelsea, Man Utd, Arsenal, Leicester & Spurs. It may not work out but the fact we're even considering it is a miracle in itself.

Yeah well the Carabao cup for West Ham is usually a couple of wins and then exit via another Premier League team, so no surprise there.

Everton in midfield especially are on fire . Carlo has always been my choice for Manchester United manager since fergie retired. Although this is still very much the silly season for results so far , Everton quietly building up the points now and the self belief it brings should be top 4 on their early showings. If you beat Liverpool , who knows?

Can anyone explain why Pickford has not been retroactively punished for the VVD tackle? From what I've read, it's because the incident was already reviewed on VAR - but as far as I could tell that incident was NOT reviewed by VAR (the offside decision was, the tackle wasn't).

I don't think anyone on here have balls the size of an elephant or the understanding behind the use of VAR.
The ref saw it so he should also face questions.

He can't be because the referee saw it and decided not to give a card, or so I understand.

Great comeback twice from behind by Everton and as good a headed goal as you'll see all season by Calvert-Lewin.

Great derby, fair result.

Southampton are a proper team - I wasn't surprised by our first defeat of the season.

One thing is obvious and that's that the squad is painfully thin and that's already beginning to take its toll. Iwobi is shocking - useless. I think Gilfi needs to move on too.

So Lampard on a 2 and a half year contract. I’m not sure that’s great, but the options are so thin.
