Postby Limpin' Jez McKenzie » 21 Jul 2022, 06:18

Last night was like watching Bobby Charlton.

I’m enjoying watching this England team as much as I do the men. Possibly more.

An England manager with tactical nouse, capable of changing a game with the big decisions she makes, is just so refreshing.

Whatever next?

Wasn’t it against Portugal he hit a goal like that?

Maybe. Sometimes I think my whole childhood was spent watching him move the ball forwards then belt it into the net from 25 yards, comb-over trailing behind him. Then a decade later it was Augenthaler doing the same thing.

Absolutely bloody awesome.

Kirby and Williamson were majestic.

And Russo’s goal.... CR7 eat your heart out!

To her credit in her interview she acknowledges missing a sitter first....

Mead's goal was great - excellent first time ball from Bronze.,

Well that was amazing.

Who decides Player of the Tournament?

Beth Mead had a good one for sure, but in flashy bursts with long periods of ineffectiveness.

Leah Williamson was imperious throughout. Apparently she didn’t make a single tackle in the whole tournament but that’s because she read everything so well she didn’t need to. And her running with the ball out of defence, and her passing (always forward) was great.

Bobby Moore-esque.

(Earps not too far behind.)

There's a piece of footage from inside the goal where she clears the ball off the line in a goalmouth scramble. Top notch - speed of thought and an assured touch - she could easily have hammered it into the net.

And Earps was everything you want from a keeper - dominates the goal atea and when the defence is breached.

Germans should have won it. They were the better team on the day. Why are the English always so lucky in tournaments? I mean, the referring in 1966 was very biased as well.
