to be boringly prosaic about it, it's because the two-footed flick is ruled as the kicker playing the ball twice.

But I agree, a great inventive trick shot, a sensation in its day, and requiring some decent technique: I'm not sure it's as easy to hit a volley as a dead ball that sweetly.

To be honest, the main reason I'm posting this is to casually mention that I was there in the stadium, pitchside (well about 18,000 ft above the pitch at the back of the stand).
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

To be fair, I think the Cryuff one is cooler, because of the pass back to him. Still, shocking one-upmanship there, Maarts!
