Ivan Mauger RIP
It is hard to imagine now how big speedway was in the 70s, driven by TV coverage, I suppose, on Grandstand and Sportsnight, essentially the only chances to see sports unless you them live. Even today speedway has decent following in the provinces, and it is a good night out. But in the 70s everyone knew of Ivan Mauger, the New Zealander whose name meant a packed house. RIP, the King of the Dirt Track. Another part of my formative years has gone with the wind.

Re: Ivan Mauger RIP
And Ole Olsen! RIP Ivan . It was huge in the seventies wasn't it? I think it was one of the sports with the highest attendances and followings in the country , loved it.
