Any thoughts about the new ninth inning batting order change for teams that are trailing in the game?

I'm pretty sure I would be so outraged if they actually did that I would well and truly give it all up. They can nibble around the edges to trim a few seconds off here and there and I can't really blame them (well, I can) but this would totally upend everything. So wrong.

I'm getting old. As I follow college baseball, it was sad to hear of ex Univ of Texas coach, Augie Garrido, dying. And Mark Marquess of Stanford just retired and isn't coaching this year. Seeing games at Stanford's sunken diamond is a little different.

One of my favorite days of the year is on Friday. The first day baseball boxscores appear in the daily paper.

I’m stoked.

I keep meaning to go back to the 2017 thread to post something about MY BALLCLUB being World Champs for the first time ever and I guess I never did because I was in an airplane over Greenland when it happened and then in the UK for awhile immediately thereafter. So I never really wrote the teary, sentimental, ecstatic post I meant to write, and now Spring Training is over so there’s not much point.

Anyway, I’m stoked. The team is better than it was last year and I’m feeling greedy.

Unfortunately, the first game is tomorrow afternoon and the first home game is Monday at 6:30, which are the two most impossible days and times for me to blow off work.

We’ll see what the season brings!

Today is the first day of the season isn't it? Did I see the Dodgers are hosting the Giants? Nice match up to kick the season off with.

It is. I think they schedule a bunch of rivalries to start the season.

Good opening day game for you guys vs. Texas. Verlander vs. Hamels.

It would be if the Giants ace wasn't hurt and Johnny Cueto were scheduled to pitch. As it is, it's Clayton Kershaw for the Dodgers, who was lights out in the Spring: No runs scored in 23 1/3rd innings, I believe.

The Giants start second year guy Ty Blach who had a 6+ ERA in the second half of last year. I am looking forward to seeing Andrew McCutcheon and Evan Longoria in Giants' uniforms.

A's vs. Angels is this afternoon in Oakland. First day time opener in years for Oakland, which is celebrating 50 years here.

My dad was a huge A's fan and as a third baseman, Sal Bando (Captain Sal) was one of my favorite players when I was little. I still have a vinyl record from the first championship season in the '70s.

Three holy days in one week!

Regardless of the disappointing off-season the Dodgers have had, we're still going into the season not afraid of anyone. We will compete, and as the mighty Cubs not holding their early lead on the lowly Marlins shows, anything can happen.

I go home for lunch and was watching some of it. My response: It's April.

It's somehow fitting that Rusty Staub died on opening day.

I am under no illusion - the Giants are going to suck again this year.

Wish I could say the Dodgers were going to win it all this year. They still could, but they came so close to winning it all, then took a step back instead of a step forward. Anything can happen, of course, and I'm certainly not afraid of any other teams, but the Yankees, Cubs, Astros, and Nationals all worked to improve while our FO worked to get under the luxury tax threshold.

Ohtani appears to be the real thing, however. First Major League win and first HR this week. And looked pretty amazing doing both:

I think you might have posted this before he hit another yesterday. He's talented, that's for sure.

It's been interesting to see what Gabe Kapler's done in Philly and the response. I guess the Dodgers dodged a bullet when they hired Roberts over him, as he was one of the other leading candidates. When Roberts was at the Giants at the end of his career, I remember the broadcasters, former players Mike Krukow and Duane Kuiper, saying he'd make a good manager someday.

For the Dodgers sake, I hope he stays around for awhile.
