Shame. He was a good man, and a eloquent speaker on the game when given the chance. Having to follow on from Bobby Robson as England manager was never going to be easy, and he was savaged by the press before he got started.
Like fast-moving clouds casting shadows against a hillside, the melody-loop shuddered with a sense of the sublime, the awful unknowable majesty of the world.

You sometimes forget about his achievements with Watford and Villa. A great club manager for a while and he came across as a decent man.

The impossible job documentary is, of course, one of the most unintentionally hilarious ever. I still quote it occasionally.

RIP

Would he not like that.

Seriously as people say, a very decent man who loved football. I didn't like his methodology but you cannot deny his achievements.

A decent bloke (iirc he was a prison visitor in his time off) and solid club manager promoted way above his footballing abilities. RIP.

Nonsense. He wasn't the right fit for international football, as many managers aren't, but had a very impressive record at club level.

Clear consensus that he was a decent man, very good club manager.

A decent man. I'd be happy if that is what people would say about me.

RIP Mr Taylor.

One of my best friends knew him well and is gutted today. Taylor, he says, was a genuine, gentle, funny, helpful and honest man. RIP.

I met him on occasion when I did my football turn on the telly. He was charming and very funny.
RIP.

So sad, thought he was a decent manager. He had no luck with the England job. Deserves respect for his achievements at club level, all the same.

Before my time but the footage of him standing up to a fan shouting racist abuse at John Barnes vs San Marino came to mind first. I always thought he was among the better radio pundits as well.

Good piece about GT from today's Guardian, the story about the wedding is lovely

https://www.theguardian.com/football/bl ... ston-villa

Given all the opprobrium they heaped on his head during his ill-advised spell as England manager, wonder how the Scum has marked his passing.

It's amazing how well he took it on the chin, I can think of managers who let much less get to them.
