Baseball - Cleveland or Chicago?

Postby sloopjohnc » 25 Oct 2016, 16:45

Cleveland: long layoff, great playoff run even thought their big hitters didn't hit for average, and their manager has never lost a World Series game as manager. Last title, 1948.

Chicago: 103 wins, best in baseball, almost no offensive or defensive deficiencies. The curse from 1908 lives on until they win.

Lester pitches tonight and Kansas City gave him fits stealing the bases a couple years ago in Wildcard when he was with the A's. The Indians like to run too and if they get on base early, will do the same thing to rattle Lester.

Cleveland in 7.

Is Charlie Sheen throwing out the first pitch for Cleveland?

This is what I came here to say. Although maybe 5. I doubt it will be either a full sweep or go the full 7.

I really don't think so either, but Cleveland has been full of surprises.

Someone made a joke about Cleveland being in more World Series on TV and in the movies than they actually have.

As a sports town, Cleveland has been more of an overall joke. 1964 was the last year any team had won a championship.

While the Cubs absence is lore, the White Sox, Bears and Bulls have all won championships through the years.

Now they have the NBA champs, and the UFC heavyweight champ, in one year.

I have no idea who will win, but I'm certainly going for the Cubs. They are, first and foremost, the NL choice. They have the longer drought (and Cleveland has been to the WS lately), and I grew up with every Cubs game on TV. SO MANY summer afternoons were spent with them on the TV. Also, I've had a few good times at Wrigley Field, which is the best old ballpark in service (not to damn it with faint praise).

One of the best pitching and catching performances I've ever seen. Cubs hitters were just looking at Kluber wondering what happened. I think it was the third when the 2nd and 3rd Cubs' hitters went down on called strikes.

Francona sat Kluber down after just 88 pitches because he'll need him for game four. Miller pitched an awful lot which tells you how much Francona was thinking, "Fuck it, I wanna win the first one no matter what."

I think that was in the first inning. At first I thought the ump was giving him a Livan Hernandez strike zone, but I think the replays bore out the calls.

Yay for the Cleveland Indians!

They've been among my very favourite MLB teams (top three at least) for over forty years!

The Chicago Cubs are hatefully prejudiced against the race of goats and you know it.
