I did have the beneficial side effect of the tournament today.... 24 of us put £5 in at work. Everybody got a team and a chosen goal scorer from that team...if one of the 24 chosen goal scorers got the fastest goal, £120 goes directly to them.

Have a guess who had Poland & Lewandowski?

It's an interesting bit about how international teams have less time to get their attacking options up to scratch - it's valid too.

It is so much easier to stop teams playing than to play attacking/creative football yourself. Which is why more and more teams aren't necessarily being defensive as much as 'organised'. As the article says....stick one/two up top (especially if one of those is a Ronaldo/Bale etc) and ask them to do their best.... and get eight/nine behind the ball and stay solid. Sadly, that's the preferred (and most effective) method at international level.

Regarding euro 2016 the best team was Germany - in my view. The 30 minutes spell against France in the first half, in the semi, was absolutely spellbinding. By any definition it was the very best football of the tournament - besides one key ingredient..... they didn't score. And that's really where they fell over - everything was great until the 'final furlong'..... If Muller had been in any kind of form they'd have won it. And completely blown this article asunder in the process.

It's a thin line....

Big Sam is always expecting a call from the FA, duh!

He's always expecting one from Real Madrid too. Doesn't understand how he has been overlooked.

One, both or neither may or may not be about positions in their organisations. Left back in the (dressing room/delusions of adequacy mansion/insert your own witticism), perhaps.

I'm just sulking because I had Romania in the office sweepstake....but well done to Portugal. They were a limited team with an effective game plan that even saw them home when their talismanic player had exited. Respect is due, and they deserved to win a poor tournament.

You think you were unlucky? I had tickets to see Wilco and Lucinda Williams in Dublin and ended up having to watch all 120 minutes of an incredibly shite climax to an incredibly shite tournament after contracting a horrible stomach virus that left me pretty much flat on my back the whole weekend and most of the early part of this week
