Yeah, i really hope not. If i can keep training strongly for the next 4-5 days, i think i could really push my PB time.

I've lost 61 pounds in the past nine months. Daily walking was part of my regimen. From 275 down to 214.

WOW! Fantastic, Velvis. That must be making such a difference in your general day to day life.
Are you doing hikes and stuff as well as walking around your neighbourhood?

We have a nice country bike trail in my town that goes through ten miles of woods. That's where I do my walking.

30 mins. to race time. It's a bit breezy but no rain, and the temp. feels just right for a run.

Well, it's done and i'm still alive!

Sadly i don't think i beat my PB; i crossed the line at around 49 mins. i think, so about 30 secs. - 1 min. over last year's time. Got a stitch at around the 4 bloody km mark, and it cost me that 1-2 mins. in the middle section.

I finished relatively strongly though, so overall a good run if not great. Not feeling any injury niggles, so that's a plus too. Now for a hearty breakfast! :)

I'll have a look for some when the results are posted next week. Yeah, it's a decent time, but i still can't help feel a bit disappointed that i couldn't break my PB, considering my running has been strong and pretty regular the last few weeks. I've been running it over in my mind to see where the problem is, and it's obviously my core. I should have done more sit-ups to build core strength, and maybe watched my diet a bit more in the last fortnight to lose another kg or so. That might have made the difference. It certainly wasn't my legs - after the race in Nov. '15, my hammies, quads and calfs felt like rocks for 2-3 days, whereas today i feel absolutely fine, which tells me my legs were well prepared. So, a good course of sit-ups and crunches will be part of the training for sure next time!

I have been sorely lacking in motivation so have entered the Loch Ness marathon in September - a great race and one I know well having done it twice before - which I hope will give me the impetus to pull myself together!

I started running again about a month ago, but did something to my ankle playing hoops with my son. Compensating for my ankle running on the treadmill, I did something to my calf. That finally got better this week so I hit the treadmill. About 3/4th of a mile in, my other calf started getting tight enough where I had to stop because I felt something was going to pop or tear. Maybe it's a circulation thing. I wanted to get in good enough running shape to play full court hoops next week when I went to Oregon, but it doesn't look likely. I hope it gets good enough to where I can just actively shoot around halfcourt with myself now.

What a beautiful location for a marathon, I love it there. You'll probably pass Jimmy Page/Aleister Crowley's old house too on the route. Get that motivation back and get out training! :D


I've been sweet-talked into doing the harder of two "Stairmaster" races in a couple of weeks in my home island of Lantau. I hadn't planned on doing it as it's a bit too close to an upcoming trip to Nepal but my friend wanted to enter and didn't think she would complete it unless I was there to push her :roll: . Anyhow I'm taking it easy and not going for any great times. The route is over HK's second and third highest mountains then back again the same way. 8 hour cut off time but should manage in 6 or 7 at an easy pace. The easier of the two races is the following week on Hong Kong Island but I'm away for that so my partner in crime is on her own for that one.

Good luck with training and the race, Belle! Sounds like an awesome place to do it.

Official times for the Unicef 10K run came out today, and my chip time was 49 minutes and 50 seconds. Under 50 as i hoped, but want to do better next time!

The Lantau Stairmaster completed without a hitch, but without any good time to report either. It's only 20km but with 2500m of climbs in a short space of time and I was more exhausted than I was after completing either the "Double Au" route (the hardest 55km section of the 100km trailwalker) or the Lantau 70km trail.

Here's a bit of youtube footage. You can see me and my friend at around 3.00, a pair of chatterboxes amid a field of tightly focussed runners....no wonder we clocked lousy times - too much chatter and not enough concentration :lol:

For about a month and a half, my calf muscles felt like they were going to tear at any amount of running. Felt pretty good this week and I've managed to do three days of two miles each. I can tell how bad a shape I'm in because I use to be a 7 minute mile runner and can barely get through two miles in under 20 minutes now.
