Re: BCB England football team thread
Odd fact: not many goals in Europe tonight. In the first half, only two teams managed to score two goals, namely, England and....Luxembourg, who lead 2-1 at Macedonia.

Wasn't that always a given? It's such an easy group that even England can't possibly fuck it up...can they??

Yes but Adam has to take any opportunity to give his messiah Hodgson credence, no matter how insignificant the performance/opposition.

Re: BCB England football team thread
Nope.
We beat the worst ranked international team in the world at home by 5 goals.
Hardly a great result let alone performance, as I'm sure others will beat them by more.
We all know you have an agenda with roy...you've openly stated on this thread how you think he's the man for the job etc etc.
Why contest it?

yes, i do think he's the man for the job, but that's not the reason why i'm celebrating. a win is a win and with switzerland losing we stand a good chance of early qualification which will enable Roy to experiment a bit, later in the group stages.
i'm getting a bit cheesed off with your anti-England agenda. the next thing, you'll be asking me to take down my flag of st. george which hangs proudly outside my bedroom window in valencia.

Well said. DD needs to reel his neck in.
Now England are mainly Arsenal we should all get behind them.

Fat frank and stevie retire, and imho, England are better off for it, given time and a maybe a different manager i think they could do something.

Re: BCB England football team thread
There is an element of cobwebs being blown away with the retirement of Lampard, Gerrard and Cole. I guess what's most exciting at the moment is that the majority of players in the side are playing Champions League football, they're first teamers for their clubs, they're young and there seems to be a relative amount of competition for players. Apart from say, Hart and Cahill, I wouldn't say any player has 100% chance of being picked each time - I know Rooney is captain, but there is a relative amount of uncertainty over his favoured position and I'd say that Sterling probably has more chance of being picked now but for the fact that he is still young and burnout is in the manager's mind. He certainly is the player that I think opposition teams would fear the most.
England need a lot of players however to kick on this season and grow in stature - Gibbs, Baines, Wilshire, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Lallana and probably Sturridge. I think Henderson and Sterling have improved the most over the last year or so. The defence remains a big worry and is our achilles heel - in the last 15-20 years we had Adams, Campbell, Ferdinand and Terry - exceptional centre-backs who provided leadership and defensive excellence - typical English defenders. I think Cahill has prospered and improved during his time at Chelsea, but elsewhere we look inexperienced - and Hart didn't exactly cover himself in glory at the World Cup.

Toby - you know, I know, everyone knows and Rooney himself knows...he is the first name on the team sheet. When he isn't is the day he loses the captaincy.
To suggest otherwise is absolutely bonkers.

Yeah you're right - I'm just thinking of the position he plays in. There's definitely uncertainty over that. Him, Hart and Cahill then - they're the starters.
