While a joke, this would be funny to see.

As someone said on another thread, just when you think you've completed your descent down the ladder into hell, you discover someone's added another rung.

:? , bit deeply dark for a Rooney for manager joke.

England didn't manage a single shot on goal in that first half. Marcus Rashford? Jamie Vardy?

Comforting to know we replaced one useless midfield captain with another.

Yep, both of them looked a bit uncomfortable really.

Quite possibly because the two spent a combined total of 172 minutes warming their bums on the subs' bench.

Two fat drunks fighting in a pub car park, isn't it? I think I'm about the only person left alive who is actually excited by the prospect.

I suspect you are.

I gave up on the national team years ago but it would be nice if we humped them of course.

Is it on the telly?

God, it's going to be dreadful isn't it?

England will be pedestrian at best, whilst Scotland will try hard, probably play better on the night, but still lose.

The only certain thing about tonight is that Rooney will look like a one paced donkey.

It's gonna be like an old English first division match circa 1991.

One things for sure, it's Strachans last chance to make us great again.

I'm predicting 1-0, a Cahill header or something.

I'm hoping it's a mudbath of a pitch, with a luminous orange football, so that it feels properly 1970s. Someone should be giving away rattles outside the ground. Leighton Baines needs to be recalled just for this one match, as he has the correct hair.

What it needs is a Frank Worthington/Matt Le Tissier/Jimmy Johnstone figure - a numinous presence who briefly sets the game alight with a wonder goal, before being mercilessly scythed down.

Also a rabbit needs to run across the pitch followed by a copper who falls flat on his arse

First half was highlighted by one brilliant goal. Perfect cross and a superb header. Otherwise, woeful. England's defence is poor beyond words (what is Stones doing?), but Scotland's finishing on a number of good chances is just embarrassing. Scotland's pressing game is basically good, but the one time it fell down, they got punished. A lot will depend on if they can keep this up for 90 minutes.

Says a lot at how poor this World Cup group is that the England defence is still to concede a goal.

One question for Scotland: where is Oliver Burke?

England's defence look very shoddy. I hope the powers that be are looking at that and not the flattering scoreline, because I think Southgate would be dreadful as permanent manager.

Lallana has become a magnificent player under Klopp, mind.

Cahill's booking and suspension should prove a blessing in disguise.
