BCB England football team thread

Postby 'skope » 04 Sep 2014, 13:55

getting sick to death of all the negativity surrounding last night's game.

• England won against a very negative norway side
• the crowd was one of the biggest of the night

it's a side in transition. let's judge hodgson on how England do in the euros.

Fantastic comment from Hodgson -

"Don't hit me with statistics. When we had that much possession, and you talk about two shots on target?"

Aside from possible fixtures in the Blue Square Ryman's League, were there any other games on in the UK
last night?

my point being that 40k for a meaningless fixture after a disappointing world cup campaign is none too shabby, despite the british media saying otherwise.

so the british media would have us believe, G.

i rather like how he's not afraid to pick young players, but admit i'd also like to see him pick players who play regularly in the prem, such as noble and shawcross. his blind spot is rooney, but i can't think of a single manager who wouldn't pick him.

what is the alternative? hoddle, redknapp, neville, pearce? God help us.

I don;t think picking young players is a feather in his cap. There's been a desire for that in the public and the media before Roy came on board so he's just going with the flow. It's not like there's anybody else is there?

The man belongs to a bygone era.

Yeah, it's not that he's picking the wrong players, more that you sense he doesn't know how to get the best out of them.
He can probably do organised. It's doing organised, expansive and attacking that he struggles with.

As long as we qualify, it's not that important how we play. Sterling and Sturridge offer hope, but it is difficult to get away from the fact that we lack real quality in the middle of the pitch now.

It takes a big man to cry, but it takes a bigger man to laugh at that man.

I don't agree. England need to try and get to the next level. After all they nearly do always qualify (and since the expansion of the WC and European Championships qualification is easier anyway) but they can't raise their performances when they get there.
Thy need to produce top performances to take into competitions rather than hoping they somehow magically go up a level within the tournament.

and that's precisely why England are consistently so shit and getting shittier with every tournament.

It's nothing* to do with how much 'quality' you have. It's about how you play together.

*relatively speaking

Surprisingly decent performance from England, that. Like skope says, the Swiss are no mugs (well, Djourou is a clown, but still). Puts them very much in charge of the group.

They're not all that good either, but it was a decent performance.
