Sports betting (not just golf...)

Postby funky_nomad » 01 Aug 2013, 11:06

This is now a place to list your top tips, boast about successful earners and wail in anguish about bad decisions, unlucky bounces and dreadful refereeing that cost you money.

I'm on a wee run just now. Following my Mickelson/Stenson double success at The Open, I backed Snedecker at 12/1 to win the Canadian Open last week.

So, given I’m well up on my Paddy Power account, I’ve decided to have a wee punt on the WGC this week:

Snedecker @ 22/1
Stenson @ 33/1
Haas @ 50/1
Matsuyama @ 66/1

Make me rich!*

*(stakes wagered will not actually make me rich…)

I'd rate the odds on Fuck Buttons new album being my top pick for 2013 to be 2/1.

Obviously I wish you the best of luck mate! Is KJ Choi playing?

He wasn't, no - the only Choi to feature in the standings this week was NY Choi at the Women's Open at St Andrews. She finished tied second...

So, a modest profit thanks to Stenson, which would've been a much better return had Haas finished one place ahead of where he did. Ah, well, still on a bit of a roll.

USPGA wagers now under consideration - Webb Simpson looks in good nick...

Blimey - he's 66/1 at the moment. And Poulter is 60/1.

Tasty...

I hope he holds on for your sake, Funky. I fear he's due a bad last day, going on his form the past 3 years, but he's certainly handling the course well thus far.

I didn't get a chance to back before the tournament...but invested just a little during play yesterday on Dustin Johnson, Rory McIlroy and Jonas Blixt. If Blixt isn't overwhelmed by playing with his compatriot Stenson, he looks great value at 14/1 this morning. He's tidy, and is a damn good putter and scrambler - very much what you need around here.

It's going to be a great 4th day, so many in with a good chance.

Another feeble Major from Woods. US TV kept showing him, even though he was miles behind.

I had my first bet on the golf this major, but it doesn't look like Hunter Mahan will come through for me.

I like Adam Scott's form though, drives the green at 14, hits the rough at 15 and hits the tree at 16

Ach well - a modest wee profit, but a Furyk win would have seen that well into 3 figures...

Dufner closed things out really well down the stretch, and exorcised similar demons to Adam Scott.

Back to the "normality" of the main Tour again, and while the proper big names take a break, there's money to be made. Somewhere...

Bill Haas is on a great run of form (he's had more Top 10 finishes than antone else this season), and The Ghost Magazine (aka Boo! Weekly) and David Toms seemed to be on the verge of form last week and are at relatively generous odds, so those are my top tips. A wee punt on JJ Henry for no other reason than being out early on the first round, which often helps.

So:

Bill Haas @16/1
Boo Weekley @ 45/1
David Toms @ 45/1
JJ Henry @ 100/1

What about Ian Black? 3 game ban.

Thoughts?

I had a little bet on the 49ers for the Superbowl just before Week 1.

The game against the Packers pleased me - they've got a few issues, but I think they'll go very very close, again.

Jim Furyk has just shot 59 at a FedEx event. With a bogey on his card. Fuck me.

Pity he's so painfully slow on a golf course...
