I had a discussion on FB with a friend who is into Cycling. He was angry that a "unrepentant drug cheat" had won the race that "Cav" was supposed to win. When I asked if would have been fine if "Cav" had won with the help of a drug cheat. That would have been ok. He got very upset in that our drug cheat was different from their drug cheat, and that I didn't know what I was talking about.

After seeing Chambers win his heat I looked up his biography on the net. I guess whether one believes 'drug cheats' should be given another chance may reflect on belief in rehabilitation or not. I personally beieve in giving people a second chance and reading about Chambers' challenges to return to competitive running, financial hardship and being shunned by his teammates amongst other things I feel that he's done his time. He was wrong to take performance enhancing substances but it looks like many do but don't get caught. The science required to identity illegal drug use in sport is one step behind those individuals developing new, hidden products apparently. Chambers alleged that half the USA Olympics team were using performance enhancing drugs at Beijing. Cycling is rife with rumour. The finger points at Chinese athletes...and so it goes on. Let him run.

Chambers will get polite applause, but he won't ever capture the hearts like Ennis and Farah have.

It irks me greatly that the twice convicted drugs cheat keeps someone like Tyson Gay from winning a medal. :x

It's ridiculous enough letting one time offenders back, two times cheats should be banned for life.

Presumably referring to Vinokourov and Millar. Simple difference - Vinokourov has never confessed or given any explanation for his doping. Millar has become a great advocate of anti-doping and clean sport. I recommend Millar's autobiography 'Racing In The Dark'.

Well that's all good then.

At 33 years old, the twice convicted drugs cheat Justin Gatlin runs the sixth quickest 100m in history - a year after setting Personal Best's in both the 100 & 200m.

Of course all is fair in love and war, because he's commited the crimes and done the time, hasn't he?

So one drug cheat beats another drug cheat into second, who beats another drugs cheat into third.

Excellent.

a serious question, pete.

should we just let drugs into sport and be done with it?

BCB has thrived on them.
